I have a 05 rx1 er and the four header exhaust gaskets are shot. Do i have to remove the entire exhaust system to replace these donuts and what do they cost ? also is there any donuts at the connection from four to two pipes . tks.

Yes, You have to remove the seat, exahust caps and covers, then the exaust. Check my post....

Make sure you soak the bolts under the seat....they are a bugger to get out. The ones towards the front I had to remove the bracket from the frame to get the bolt out. They rust bad.
My dealer gave me all new bolts for the motor flanges and new donuts under my YES warranty. Good Luck, if you have any questions, PM me

Do you have it apart yet? I thought my gaskets were shot on my '05 but it turned out to be both headers were cracked. Glad I had the YES.

blown gaskets

all 4 are toast and there is no reason for this on a sled that costs this much . i have 11000km on mine but i have heard of guys with 2ooo km , having to replace them. what kind of life span is this, we would not put up with this with our cars,

Usually they should be re-placed anytime the exhaust is removed,How long do you think they should last.11.000 kms is quite alot,if you owned that 2-stroke you would be re-placing alot more than $40 gaskets.

Extreme temperature ranges that your bikes never see,hot/cold,cold/hot.I apologize on the pricing didn't know the real value.Cars don't have donuts I believe they use one piece gaskets at the block/header?

blown gaskets

some cars esp. american made have donuts not at the head but from the end of the manifold to the first pipe and have had them for years

Yes you have to loosen them so you can slide the headers back enough to get the donuts in. Those were the ones I could not get loose. I had to drill out the rivets and remove the whole bracket with the Y pipe still attatched. Then I used a vise grip to get the bolts out and replaced them. Then riveted the bracket back in. The clamp bolts under the gromets you loosen to pull the muffler and pipes out from the back of the sled. Then once that is out you have to slide the front assembly back by loosening those 2 allen bolts.

Thanks for all the info , mission complete . What a differance with no more rattle and no noise . A real job to get the muffler hooked back up to the secondary pipe , but a least i did not have to drill out rivets , lots of penatrating oil and patience . you would think Yamaha would engineer a better way than is complicated system , Two strokes shure have it easy . I hope they last this time cause i will sell it before i do this again..
