Just picked up my exhaust turnout for my MTX from the yamaha dealer and on the back of the package is says "Not for MTX" , cosmetic use only. Are you kidding me??????? Am I just suppose to look at it? Oh well, it's getting rivited on this weekend. I guess I'll just have to look at it and never start the sled.

No, stock exhaust turnout. The part came right out of the yamaha parts catalog.

I think they do that for legal reasons. I know, it is ridiculous. If you put on a turnout onto the exhaust that means that you can carry more on the back of the sled with the exhaust going out the side. If for some reason you melted of burnt up something that was on the back of the tunnel you couldn't go after Yamaha, because they stated on the package not for MTX. I thought the same thing when I put mine on.

We have a new rear rack for the Nytro MTX which includes the exhaust turn-out as a must use item... read into that what you will.

I've got the turnout on mine, bought it when I bought my MTX last October, before they had any warnings. I put a bag on my tunnel to hold my snobunje's, and on a high speed trail section I actually melted the outer tube of my snobunje INSIDE the bag. It got that hot, almost a foot behind the exhaust even with the turnout. Under tunnel is the only way to go if you are going to carry anything (especially fuel) on the tunnel.....my $0.02

All good info. Am going with the craiggerbuilt gas can so will monitor and see what happens. I think if I buy the fourbarr light and put it where the existing reflector is it may be ok. Time will tell. Thanks

It is for legal purposes. If you run a Craigerbuilt or comparable gas can, just put some heat tape on the neoprene holder because it will melt just from the radiant heat from the outlet. We ran these on the MTX with no problems!
