Agreed, these rollers should be lasting longer for sure. And I'm by no means saying this clutch is great and has no issues. It has plenty. Just that every failure I've seen so far was not a clutch randomly flying apart, which is what some here make it sound like. I know you owned the roller coming out. Wasn't attacking you if that's what it seemed like. You are 100% correct. I only blamed myself & did not bash Yamaha for this. I will replace the nuts every time & Loctite for now on.
Now i never had to replace these rollers with 20,000 miles on my Apex so i WILL blame Yamaha for designing these rollers to last only 2000 miles before being changed which is 2 to 3 times a year for me. NOW that's pretty pathetic!
Now where's the story of the gun

Damn, I thought there was going to be some crazy @$$ cowboy $h!t to the story. Or maybe you got so pissed at the sled for disappointing you, that you actually shot the primary and nailed the roller. Or had to pull a stick up job on someone to get a ride home. Guess I watch too much TV.The gun was the Temp gun i was using for belt temps testing.

What are everyones thoughts on the Hurricane stub shaft for removing the harmonics? Do we think this will help? I was considering one for next season and this may be something that pushes me in that direction.

That's the route I'm leaning towards at this point. What are everyones thoughts on the Hurricane stub shaft for removing the harmonics? Do we think this will help? I was considering one for next season and this may be something that pushes me in that direction.

To quiet down the stock primary, it sure seems like it will do the trick. What are everyones thoughts on the Hurricane stub shaft for removing the harmonics? Do we think this will help? I was considering one for next season and this may be something that pushes me in that direction.
But as mentioned, i'm not certain the stock clutch is having catastrophic issues simply due to harmonics. Rollers are junk no matter what, and seems to be the culprit in many of these failures.
I just feel like it may be a wiser investment to spend abit more and get a billet primary, and solve all the issues in one swoop. The TAPP is calling me, just need to take out a second mortgage.lol

I am looking at the TAPP also. Would like some real world feedback before jumping. they sure are expensive, but looking at my bench last night i have over $1000 worth of weights on it. I called a supplier last night to chat a bit about it.

Since 1995 I have been a huge fan of the Yamaha Clutches. Prior to 1995 I converted all my Yamaha sleds to Polaris P85 primary clutches and with custom jackshafts also used Polaris secondary clutches...it was my secret weapon in very successful radar runs and drag races throughout the 1980s and early 90s, but the 1995+ clutches have been so good that I completely bought into Yamahas design...so...after 24 years I have so many Yamaha clutches, weights, springs, rollers, pins, helixes, tools ect I literally could fill the box of my 3500 Cummins.
I would definitely be looking for a solution that still allows me to run Yamaha clutches...I would lean towards an Apex primary with pin set screws, machined for overdrive, and Hurricanes stub shaft.

Same here.....Im trying to look at it like an investment, that can be taken from one 998 to the next if/when trading up. Keep stocker for when you sell sled. Also when I do see these used for sale(mostly 1200 guys) they bring a fair resale value, so really it is a wise investment and should bring best performance, and uses cheap 8DN.I am looking at the TAPP also. Plus you save the cost on dalton weights for stock primary, and all the rollers we all go through.
Clickers work awesome for diff maps too.
I think if enough guys here wanted one, I would like to see a group buy. Maybe Tomcat or even directly from Dave would work with us if we got 10 or 15 buyers.
