My RTX seems to fall off on top. I ran multiple runs on a frozen lake the other day, the speedo tops out at about 116 after about a 1/4 mile. My buddies rtx with stock clutching will pull 123 in more distance but mine won't pull past 116. This is on the same day same conditions. My belt has 400 miles on it. The r's spike to 11,000 until it hooks then seems to be around 10,500 to 10700. I can feel it fall off. I was thinking of trying the stock clucthing but I have not found anyone that lost top speed with Ulmer's kit. When I race my buds RTX he pulls me out of the hole a little but then he just keeps pulling on me, not even close at the end. The other mods are in my sig. I have the transfer at 2 lines past the mid towards max. Thanks

Conditions might be playing a part in it. I've tried a bunch of different gearing on my sled. The best I came up with is the 07, 08 RTX gearing (23/40). Yesterday I was going down the lake at 128 (DM). My RPMs dropped from 10,700 to 10,400 just because of a strong gust of wind. To prevent such a drastic spike and then drop of RPMs, try taking one gram out of the heel of the weight. You also might want to check your track tension. A cooler engine will also make more power. A cheap bolt on is the rear heat exchanger. Just a few thoughts.

I have the rear exchanger and the r's seem to stay at the mid 10's after a long WOT run.

I agree with sj. However ,removing weight from the heel will help prevent the big variation 11,000 and 10,500.

removing weight from the heel is the wrong way to go...he's only hitting the 11,000 until he hooks up..removing weight will just slip the belt..

Spec RTX, how does your sled run on top? I see you have the same clutch kit as me but no reverse. Did you have to tweek the clutchimg to get it correct?

Stealth RTX, I have an 06 RTX with an ulmer stage 2 and I have the exact same problem! I top out at about 115 on the dream meter, other sleds roll on by on top. It's pulling 10,900 to 11,000 rpm. Gotta play with the clutch...guess ill take weight out of the tip??

if youre pulling 10900-11000...you need to add tip weight!

My 07 RTX was fast when I got it and it revved to 10,600 RPMs every time. All of a sudden at 5k miles it started revving to 11,000 RPM and I have lost some top end. I think it may be my belt, I have almost 4k miles on it.

Stealth800,
I did have to play with my clutching quite a bit. My RPMs were spiking and dropping down dramatically like yours. I took a gram out of the heal (when I had old gearing in it) and it helps alot. It makes the RPMs more consistent. With gears I'm running (23/40), I run 7 grams in the heel and 2 grams in the tip. Silver secondary at 6-2. My sled will shift around 10,700 - 10,800, drop to around 10,400 and pull back up to 10,600ish. Maybe even 10,700. My belt has about 1500 miles on it and my sled has about 2000 miles on it. On Sat, I was out on the lake running 128 (DM) before a huge gust of wind blew about 6 feet to the left and then I backed out of it.

Im surprised you guys arent running the white secondary spring...seems like much more consistant performance

I have a 06 RTX with a Woodys Power-up kit which includes the 23t gear, OD sheave, and silver spring. I have almost 5000 miles now and have tried the silver that came with the kit and tried the white secondary. I found the white pulled better and made more top end up until I blew my belt around 800 miles ago. Now with a new belt the white was reving past 11000 rpms and my top suffered so I went back to the silver at 80 and I'm back to around 10600-10700. This past Saturday in Millinocket, Maine on the road to Baxter I was hitting 116-118 on DM 105 GPS and the conditions were great for trail riding but not the best for top end so I thought that was resonable for trail speed. Has anyone tried the white at say 50 degrees just like the bottom and mid pull of the white better. I may even try the stock pink at 70 to see how it pulls compared to the silver. I myself was thinking about trying the Ulmer stage 1 or 2 since I have these three springs but am unsure how much more performance I will gain from the stock weights. I have noticed that with almost 5000 miles and the new yamaha belt that my revs are up from before maybe due to things wearing in or out whichever way you want to look at it. Those thinking of heading to Maine the riding is still outstanding in most areas. The Forks to Jackman to Moosehead are great from a close friend who rode Sunday and I rode Millinocket Sat. and conditions are even better in the County. Do watch for Moose and Deer and the wardens. The wardens have been out thick since we had 5 fatals in a weekend but if you check most were at night probably over running their lights its so easy to do. But the wardens are writng tickets for exhaust, imprudent speed -but theres no speed limit, and there biggest is left of center. if you see tree boughs stuck in the outside of a corner hit the bidders cause their there. They also put down red paint dots not a line but dots state must be real tight on paint because they use to paint a whole line but anyways if you cross that dot you get a ticket. So watch the corners cause the wardens are out in force. Good riding to all Mark

Ask Lennstang about clutch kits. He put the Erlandson kit in his. The thing was fast and could pull my stock Rtx by a sled or two but on top end I'd go right by him every time. He kept the kit in for half of this Winter with the same results everytime and we race each other a lot. In early Feb. he finally removed it and went to stock clutching. All of a sudden he's as fast as me on top. The sleds are almost identical in speed and acceleration now. It's hard to beat the stock clutching without sacrificing something.
