There is a spec. Using a volt meter ,do not disconnect the grip warmer connections, back probe, in parallel, the yel-red on one connector and black on the other one.@4000 rpm and under 4-5volts. @ over 4000 rpm 12-13 volts with the grip warmers set on high.
My grips tested out good, but don't get nowhere near as hot as my sxr grips did. Someone posted that the new grips with the extended length have more resistance to avoid overload and that makes sense. I like having the hooks heated becuase my hands spend most thier time hanging on the radious bend of the bar. I found that the glove that i'm wearing makes a big difference. If i wear my heavier Gore-tex gloves, the warmers are good, but if i use the thinner wind chill (moto-cross type) gloves the heaters seem weak.

I finally got some miles on with the updated bars this past weekend (around 400). I must say they work very well. When I first installed them it did seem as if one side was getting hotter then the other, but after the first few miles I didn't notice this anymore. On a couple cold mornings (+1 to 2 F) I turned them all the way up until the bars got warm, but after this initial warmup they were never set above 3/4. As the day got warmer, around 12 F, I had them turned down below 1/2. If turned above 1/2 my hands would be hot and start to sweat. I must also mention that I have Powermadd handguards with extensions installed, and am using Choco Racing gloves, so this may also have helped keep things warm. Now that I have a few miles on them, they also seem to be heating evenly.

They work great at above 0 F temps..
But once you get to -15 and below then the wind comming in contact with your gloves and bars takes its toll..

My 07 bars seem to work good not super, but as good as the Cat bars.-25c and still o.k.,foaming the bars seemed to make no difference that I could notice and say it helped, but hard to say as it has been quite cold out last week -35 - -20c every day.

Welter is right the 07' update handwarmers work o.k. as long as it's above 0 f, after that you need gaunlets to maintain heat

I gotta tell that pretty much every sled needs some wind protection on the hands when it gets -25c outside. I rode in a large group of sleds (RX-1, Warrior, Polaris) when it was -30c and the only sled that had warm hands were the guys with gauntlets and Jim Mannings stock Polaris. The rest of wore mits to keep our hands warm.welterracer said:They work great at above 0 F temps..

hey guys....i think youre all still missing the point...when you touch the bars with my fix, they are HOT,regaurdless of wind, tall shield,lakes,temps...ect ect.
sure all those things are factors, and you can make the other bars more comfy by MASKING the problem of luke warm bars..
I still stand by the 06 bar to 07 harness fix...nothing makes the bars HOT like this...they will only be luke warm at best, and MAY be enough for many who have good circulation...but below 0F for 98% of the people the supposed FIX from yamaha is a crock.

Dan ,I am with you on this one. My 07 apex with the 07 bars/grips do not heat at all and never did. One thing to state is the 07 heating element is a printed circuit board tape that the grip has to be slid over. If the element is in anyway damaged when sliding the grip over the top of it, the grip heating element then becomes junk, and will not work. More than likely the cause of some new style working and some not working. I can run mine with the highest setting in a 25 degree shop with the 07 elements and they dont even think about working. I too would like to see a printed bulletin on this with ecu failure situations from yamaha. If they are telling a canada dealer this then some dealer in the U.S. must know about this too, and are trying to save face by scaring people into not trying to fix their screwup on their own. I suppose running the sled with the brake light on while stopped, should be bad for the ecu also since it requires extra power then, right Yamaha?

Dan your fix is fine for the people who want to risk other hazards that very well could happen with this mod done. It is not the fix all for everyone so dont try to make it out that way. Others may want to find other solutions to the problem so their sleds are not at risk. Please leave them alone to do this.

Just 1 last note on my behalf. Since I work for a Yamaha outboard marine dealer, I was able to go into online dealer network services that list all the technical service bulletins and updates and Yamaha has ABSOLUTELY nothing listed in regards to the fore mentioned bulletin about the ecu unit meltdown as of today 2-13-2007. Do what you want guys, accept what you will.

I am just saying that just above 0 I ran mine at 3/4 or below depending on how fast I was riding with no problems at all, but there is very little wind going over the bars because of my handguards. At higher speeds I actually turned them down even more, I am thinking because of the higher current output. I just want to make the point that the updated bars are actually working for some people. They are working much better then the '06 bars, at least for me.
Hey, Welterracer, I think I saw you a few miles outside Newberry last weekend while I was waiting by where the trail crossed the road for the rest of my group to catch up. Unless someone else has the same paintjob.

Great post, great point and you are very on topic, as this is about guys whose updated grips work pretty good. You seem a little defensive about people telling you that you arent right and you need not feel that way. All opinions count, glad you posted yours

Thats all I am trying to do is offer a differnt opinion. I didn't mean to sound defensive, I am just trying to make myself clear. Not in any way telling people what they should or shouldn't do.

I haven't been able to get my hands on the updated 07 bars yet (!!!), but I for one am glad that I can try them, and if they work for me, that's great. If not, I'm glad that I have more options.
