I have a 2007 Apex GT. I had the 500 mile service performed last year by my dealer. They changed the engine oil and filter and did some other checks to make sure the sled was in good shape. I now have 1100 miles on the sled and want to change the engine oil. This is my first time doing it myself and I want to make sure I don’t miss anything. I am changing the oil only since the filter was changed at 500 miles. I read the owners manual and think I understand most of the points.
1. Remove all the necessary covers to get to the oil plugs.
2. Remove the drain plug from the engine and oil tank.
3. Once the oil is drained I need to put the oil plugs back into the engine and oil tank and torque them to the proper spec.
4. I put 2.1 quarts of oil in the oil tank and start the engine. Once the engine is warmed up I need to shut off the engine and pour oil into the tank until the oil level is on the full mark.
What I am concerned about is the amount of oil I need to put in the engine. My dealer told me it would take 3.0 quarts of oil. I told him I was just changing the oil and not the filter. He told me I would need 3.0 quarts whether I was changing the filter or not. It does not appear he knows what he is talking about. According to the manual it tells me the following.
Oil Quantity:
With oil filter cartridge replacement:
4.0 L (2.6 imp qt, 3.2 US qt)
Without oil filter cartridge replacement:
2.8 L (2.5 imp qt, 3.0 US qt)
Total amount:
3.8 L (3.3 imp qt, 4.0 US qt)
I have 3 questions:
1. What does Total amount of 4.0 quarts mean?
2. Will 3.0 quarts of oil be enough since I am not changing the filter?
3. Is the oil tank is the only place I need to add the oil before starting the engine?
If there is anything else I should know I would appreciate the tips.
Thanks,
Brad

3 quarts should do ya perfectly without filter... 3.2 with filter.
you are fine without a filter change, they recommend(12,000 miles) alot longer then you have,so dont worry bout it. Most people change them far far before their life expectancy is up.
total amount 4 quarts would be a NEW CLEAN MOTOR would take to fill.
only fill at the oil tank, run motor, then add to filled level on dipstick....be sure to check level WITHOUT screwing in dipstick
