First oil change,Now what oil??

Guys so what say you on Mercedes and BMW both of which use Synthetic Oil from Day 1 in their engines? Or do we beleive that these higher RPM 4-strokes a different beast all together.

It's my understanding that cars that come with synthetic oil from the start are prebroken-in. In other words, the engine manufacture runs/breaks in the engine before it's put into the vehicle.

Honestly, I don't know why more manufactures don't break-in their engines at the factory. Most likely, it’s a cost issue.

Here is some good advice on break in, oil changes and when to switch to synthetic oil. I followed this procedure and my sled runs awesome.

That seems to make sense and sure sounds like everythign was explained very well. But id like to hear from more people before I make up my mind on how I feel of this radical break in period. My dads TF runs perfect with the factory break in.

BUT, with my quad, I broke it in like motoman suggested, but I did this out of own will. Was so happy to get it that I jsut bombed around on it, not the hardest, UNTIL, out on the ice I raced my buddy on his bravo. I didnt want to lose so hled it wide open for a long period of time, just revvin. I felt bad for this but later discovered that alot of people do it this way and my quad runs perfect, really strong

for bikes and atvs,,, i hear not to run reg oils,,, as it has anti friction additives in the oil thats not good for your clutch as its a wet type clutch. So anything with a clutch inside the engine i use the recommended oils.

Mobil-One Synthetic, been running it in my Apex and both Nytros and all four-stoke toys for years!! ;)!

Hey whit......... no snow = painful posts. Lets talk about which skis/clutch kit/track is the best now.

straight yamalube 0w 30 works fine-i have 6700miles on my sled and havent even thought about synthetic oil-no need to
Your so wrong. Full synthetic has been proven again and again to have far superior protection over any other. Youd be a fool to believe otherwise

I use Mobil 1 0w40 from the beginning. My sled now has 23k miles on it. I just did a used oil analysis through Blackstone Labs. It came back perfect. The sled had 2,300 miles on the oil sample i sent. There were no wear metals, and the viscosity was still well within normal. So for those who think that Mobil 1 is only meant for low RPM cars, and will foam up in a sled, you're wrong.

i don't like mobil 1 synthetic. ran it in my F150 and had sludge build up on the filler cap so i would never run that in my sled. I switched brands and the sludge is no longer present on the filler cap of my truck. i run the Yamaha 0w40 full syn in my Apex

to each their own I ran walmart super tech for years in my 07 with no problems as long as you keep up with changing the oil properly you really cant go wrong.
