Found something else while polishing her up??

- Well, first I found that I had a couple of stripped windshield screws while polishing up the sled.
- Then, I found that 2 of the 4 of the Allen screws that hold my bottom part of my skidplate on have come loose.

- It looks like these things have some sort of rubber expansion type nut on them??
- Is that true, and if so how do I go about tightening them back up?
- The other ones are fine, but when I try to tighten these two, they had no where to grab too up in the frame.

- I'm going to look at the exploded view this morning so that when I go to my Dealer to get the windshield screws, I can get these things too.

- All help is again, greatly appreciated!

most likely my rubber wellnut idea...you have two options....just retighten....and keep an ey on them....or add a bit of blue threadlocker...Id say just retighten...

sometimes they can spin to hasten retightening.... push on the skid plate to squeeze the base of the wellnut...or you can pull on the bolt/screw slightly while pushing on the skidplate and tightening...

you are attempting to keep it from spinning until it expands enough to bite in the hole...

much better setup than the aluminum rivnuts that come with the kit that spin and are truly a pain

Royal has the windshield screws The ones on the skidplate are a kit from yamaha,sorry no #s

If those windshield rubber ones keep spinning before tightening just take out and put a wrap or two of electrical tape around the rubber then try again.

- That's what I thougth they were, but do I have to put a set of visegrips or something on the well-nut so that it won't turn while I'm waiting for it to expand just enough to push into the hole and then tighten?

All the rivnuts (skidplates) I've put in myself stayed..they needed to be drilled correctly and tightened correctly with the right tool. I've seen dealers drill oversize, and they spin after that. Its one of those things that must be done right to work. Bought replacements from Fastenal and McMaster Carr, in inch instead of metric.

X2, I followed the directions exactly and so far so good, but I did put a dab of Permatex The Right Stuff on each one before installing them.(could be a different story when I decide to do an oil change though?)

John, I have the tool and a couple Riv-nuts left if your interested but if I was you I would look for some of those rubber type anchors that I told you about.
There was a big post on here back some time ago but I read it too late or those would have been the ones I chose

On the skid plate I added a few 1/4" bolts. I drilled and tapped the aluminum.

nope...pushing on the skidplate pinches the lip of the wellnut between the skidplate and the subframe....if for whatever reason you cant get enough pressure....after the screw is started while pushing you can pull the srew which again pulls/pinches the wellnut...
btw..i used an oversized wellnut and a stainless srew or bolt and applied never seize on the threads....every once in a while I just double check the bolt is tight...

if you bang away and the skidplate gets contact enough...those alum rivnuts will eventually loosen...it woud be different if they were steel rivnuts...much more durable..
