going to be putting in a barker exhaust i think , is it ok to run it without this fuel controller , just the pipe i think saves 12 lbs in weight and 12 more hp ,
without the fuel controller i think it's 8 hp , whats the troubles without the fuel controller , back fire or pressure , or will my sled not run smooth ,
who runs just the pipe and anyone have any trouble , need to know before i drop $700 on it , also open to hearing other options from those who have aftermarket pipes
thanks

when you change the exhaust or intake on an EFI engine you either have to run a fuel contorller or you have to modify the OEM fuel map. The engine will run lean and hot and backfire (lean Pop). I have read on here how to set the gauge into the diagnostic mode so you are able to change the fuel ratio at low end mid range and full throttle. It like 0-33% throttle 34-66% throttle and 67-100% throotle. it is a lot less precise then a fuel controller which allows you to change the raito all the way through so you get maximum performance. I am sure someone on here can tell you how to do it.
If you are going to spend the money on the exhaust you might as well spend a little extra and get a fuel controller and get the best perfomance out of it. There are all kinds of maps out there you can run. I went with the power commander V with a map from Ulmer Racing and i have been very happy with it.

Well I run just the exhaust. But I already have a fuel controller for my supercharger. When I put it on I did not notice a change in my AFR but I'm running boost. On a NA engine I agree with bhomlate about having to adjust your fuel map for more air flow. Just think of it as a fuel controller is cheap insurance than blowing up your motor. The exhaust is a good way to drop alot of pounds and with the barkers it gives it a nice deep rumble and sound like a high performance street bike when pinned wide open. It is twice as loud as the stock so if you ride trail concider getting the quiet core.

if your just putting on the exahust the fuel controloler is NOT needed. once you change either the header, intake or all three then the fuel controller is a must! I have the Barkers exhaust on my nytro. Its a loud setup, but mostly when on the throttle. It definatlly doesnt add 12hp like claimed, but the weight loss is key.
i dont have a fuel controller at all and the sled still runs like its stock exhaust!

It looks like i stand corrected then. Sorry i ASSumed that the barker exhaust was a full system especially when it was claiming 12 hp gain. I would still think that since the engine is breathing easier meaning more air is running though the engine you would need to add fuel because of the lean condition that would cause. If you are saying that you are not having any problems then that is good to know. thanks for the correction 4STROKE

No worries. There has been a lot of discusion and skeptics over Barkers claimed 12hp gain with just a simple slip on. Expecially with out any dyno numbers to back up the claim. As far as if the engine is breathing easier, im no motor expert but imo the engine is only breathing better on the last 1/3rd of the system. It would be different if the header was changed, or if modding the air box where they are closer to the motor.
On a side note if your looking at spending $700 on an exhaust system i would look at the SDR under tunnel system. If it would have been around when i was looking at getting a slip on i prolly would have tried to go that route. The SDR you can at least get a header with it too!

I can pretty much garauntee that this slip on WILL NOT give you 12 hp just by bolting it on...fuel controller or not. 12hp requires header, airbox or filters, plugs and a fuel controller....you'll be lucky to get 4hp.
There are plenty of guys running around with slip ons and no fuel controller...and with a slip on you shouldn't really need one. When you do fuel and air then you wll need to have a fuel controller. You should be fine to run without a fuel controller...they are nice to have if you plan on adding more mods.

You can change the duration of your stock injectors (rich or lean) using your existing gage pod. You set each cylinder independently. There is a single wire connector in the nose of the sled wrapped up with the wire harness where it connects to the ECU. Just ground this wire and you are able to adjust the injector duration. Hold both buttons down, turn the key on (don't start the engine), cont to hold buttons down until you see " diag" on the screen. Release both buttons and push the top button to change to "CO" menu push and hold both buttons again until you see "C1" on the screen. Press and hold both buttons to enter adjustment mode to change the duration for cylinder 1. Stock setting is "0" negative numbers shorten duration below stock and positive numbers increase duration over stock (top button increase number, lower button decreases number). Press and hold both buttons to accept changes. Press the top button to select "C1" (cyl #1) "C2" (cyl #2) or "C3" (cyl #3) (Toggle the top button to select the appropriate cyl in ascending order toggle the bottom button to select the appropriate cyl in descending order). SET ALL CYLINDERS THE SAME. I wouldn't make adjustments unless you have an AFR meter so you can see what effect you are having on the performance.
