- Apex MTX turbo 2008
Hi everyone! I finally decided to create an account here as I couldn't get an answer to my problem only by searching. Sled is a 2008 Apex MTX boondocker turbo'ed with only 6000km. I saw in a thread someone who had a similar problem like mine but he didn't reply back about the results.
So here's my problem, the sled runs but when I turn the key to prime the pump, it never stops and when running, gauge flashes code 43 as well as the yellow light and check engine. I also lost all lights. The pump is aftermarket btw for the turbo setup but it always worked fine before and still runs so I don't doubt it.
All of this is my fault, it started 2 days ago when I went to start it in the cold, turned the key and nothing happened. It wasn't the battery I tested it. So I was aware of the relay problems in the cold and I started swapping them and I went in the garage to try to activate them by powering the small terminals. It didn't click and it sparked instead, which I found weird. Btw I have 2 red upgraded relays on the pump and fan circuit. So about an hour passes and my mind finally lights up!
I accidently popped the tether cord off! So I replace the relays and from this time the pump never shuts off when the key is turned and the code flashing and everything. Needless to say I wanted to beat myself so bad lol. I am to the point that I think I may have fried the ECU. I checked every fuse in the block and starter relay and every connections around there and the ecu as well and voltage regulator. I also saw the thread about the grounding blocks causing trouble. I inspected every single one in the wiring harness and they were fine and the wires too, cleaned and greased them anyways.
One thing I find weird is that the only relays that are able to power the fuel pump are my red ones. I tried with the old style ones and with one that a friend lent me that I know is good. They are supposed to accomplish the same task.
I wish I could borrow an ECU from someone around me, I will look for that! But do you think it's the cause? It's my last thought, I searched alot about it and asked people. They think my ecu is fine but it's about the last thing I could think of being wrong.
Thanks for any help!

From your description it seems that the sled worked fine, because of the tether you removed the relays and then put them back in and the sled was unhappy. Nothing in all of that suggests you did anything to the ECU. You mention some sparks and surprises bench testing the relays. I know you state that you have tried it with good relays but everything you say points to relays to me. They are cheap, spares are good to have, so maybe buy new ones.
Sorry if I seem to be minimizing your troubles but I often find the simple solution works(and is cheaper).

Thanks for your replies! I haven't had the chance to report back but today I had the chance to test my ECU on another Apex and boom the same code and problems appeared on his sled so now I now it actually is the ECU. I think what I did wrong is that I started it a few times without all of the relays in place and maybe some of them might have been in the wrong spot. I know 3 of them are supposed to be the same and there's the other one thas has 3 pins on the coil side. But like I said I have 2 red ones and the other one is still original and when I put the original (and a good one borrowed) in the pump spot it doesn't work, only the red ones work there. I was thinking the terminal in these plugs may have been changed to accomodate the red ones but it's not supposed to be needed is it?
Anyways luckily I also found a pretty cheap ECU that I will get tomorrow and will hopefully be good to be back on the snow!

Thank you! I put the new (used) ECU on it tonight and now the pump acts normal and stops after a few seconds, no more code too. The lights were still not working which I found weird, I checked a lot of things and ended up findind a way to put a wire from the key to the load control relay and now as soon as I turn the key, the lights work and everything is fine! Thanks again!
