ok i am taking deep breathes here. I got everything together. after changing the oil. when I started it. it ran fine. but when I put in reverse the reverse icon would not come on and beeper would not work. I put it in reverse and forward several times all ran fine . but still no beeper or reverse icon. so I pulled the reverse actuator and looked it over and put it back on and now when I start it the gear case is squeling and grinding in forward and reverse and still no beeper or reverse icon . what the heck did I do?????????

Sounds like you have the reverse between gears.. I have not done this but I think you have to pull the reverse actuator and push the gear one way or the other and then reset it...

gear on the actuator or the gear inside the gear case . I am about to lose my mind here .Sounds like you have the reverse between gears.. I have not done this but I think you have to pull the reverse actuator and push the gear one way or the other and then reset it...
I believe you turn the actuator extension counter clock wise for forward. You will know if the detent is lined up. If you removed the extension then get it in forward manually, remove extension and put it back in with it lined up with detent. Once back together go into forward and reverse 3 times to set it to home.
When you go to reinstall the actuator you need to have it so that there is spring preload counterclockwise just about a hole width or two.

ok I pulled the actuator . It is already turned all the way to the left(counter clockwise). so do I have to go the other way????Sounds like you have the reverse between gears.. it is at full counter clock wise now and detent is lined up . so do I need to go full clockwise and then line the detent up??I believe you turn the actuator extension counter clock wise for forward. Hold the actuator in your hand and when its plugged and you push the button see what way the gear is spinning on the actuator then determine if the gear inside is to far one way or the other. Thats the way I would do it....
With the detent block and spring removed rotate full clockwise. Reinstall the detent block and spring. It will not line up perfect. Be sure that you orient it correctly.
From there I would probably start the engine and cycle Reverse off and on a couple times to be sure that the actuator is moving. You want to end with the actuator rotating the reverse gear towards the center of the machine like you set it up .
When you reinstall the actuator the bolts will not line up properly. You will need to rotate the actuator against spring force to the center of the machine by a few degrees or a couple screw hole diameters.

Interesting. I guess this way it is impossible to install in the reverse position.
You can skip the second line in my post above.

As TD Max is saying this is for you to get the actuator in the correct spot if you pulled it off to check or add oil, but u can use the gear that the actuator goes into to rotate it to move the gear inside to its home position and be sure the gear is all the way to that spot then pull actuator gear and realign , add detent block and spring and align as TDmax says and then reinstall the actuator... I hope this makes sense.
Basically I am trying to help you get the gear in the forward position and not between reverse and forward.

It will seem odd that you have to rotate the actuator against so much spring load, but it works.

ok I think I am totally screwed . I turned it all the way clockwise. pulled the gear and set it to match the detent. and installed the actuator and it is still messed up. I am for a loss here maybe I am not understanding something here . about to lose my mind.

when I am referring to clockwise and counter clock wise it is as if you are sitting on seat and looking at the gear and spring detent block. so am turning wrong or what. god only knows where the gears are inside. everything has been turned back and forth so many times .
