Glad I stuck with my 06 Apex.

Bad secondary setup on the Cat! Aftermarket secondary and problem solved! Why cat marches on with out changing the secondary is puzzling but like Yami sometimes they have their head in the sand. Way to many Nytro riders still complaining about the weak front end design and the list goes on.

And for those who say that you should not have to go after market to fix the problem your right but its way cheaper then continuing to buy 300 dollars worth of belts every weekend. For a few hundred bucks you can make it right.

My 2 cents from what I have read.

Belts are stupid priced for one shouldn't be 240 a belt (canada) when all the other ones are like 100 or 80, TEAM the guys making the secondarys are now saying that it is not the ultimate fix there finding there still is lots of heat on the belt and clutches after this. Seem like these sleds need more vents to get the the engine and turbo out as turbo love to run hot ask any car guy with a turbo they run hot. 500 miles on my first belt but first 100 200 miles i took it easy getting used to the sled than after that i was nailing it from a stop cat walking from anywhere racing along and driving it like my nytro. Sled is much more fun and way better handling and suspension than that nytro is hopefully the belts stay on a little longer but when im running 250hp plus this is what happens.
Yeah but 250hp shouldnt make any difference...I run my 270 nytro like i stole the thing every where i go and i havent had a single belt issue so i think theres more there then heat... The 800 have the same problem my buddy scott had a 2013 800rr after the second belt in 300miles went exploded and did somthing to his crank he traded it for a pro r switchback so no it not just the turbos with this problem.

So is it just the 1100 turbo's that are blowing belts or are the 800's blowing them as well?

(Would like an unbiased response...)
The 800 are blowing them...some/not all of the owners a blowing about three per 1000 miles.

Is it their clutches that are the culprit or is the chassis flexing too much under load causing out of alignment issues?........or a bad batch of belts from their supplier?

A friend of mine bought a new 2010 xf800.no problems.then bought a 2012.he missed the number of belts.he jusst walked in to the dealer and pointed to the belts, and got them fore free.he got a god deal on a 2013 xf800.and it IS the same.now hes jumping ships after 20years hardcore AC rider. To compare i destroyed my first belt at 150km.(forgott the park on upphill)and now the sled has 2500km only boondocking.belt is like when i put it on. :yam:

From what I am reading over there it seems to be different problems for different sleds and there is no magic fix for all on the Turbo's anyway. :o|
It's funny as there was a post over there how we (Yam guys) mention fit and finish so much on our sleds and how it is laughable and pointless. Funny in that I feel it is a reflection on how these machines are put together. Think about it if they don't care enough about how a hood lines up or leave a big stupid hole in the dash and exposed seat staples they may not care if the clutches line up properly or if the screws fall out of the secondary. Sometimes the little stuff is a reflection on the big stuff. Eh??

I went to the turbo Cat last season and so far I have been happy. Mine is all stock and has 1200KM on the original belt so far. Belt looks good as new. One minor issue this season due to a pinched wire after the reverse update but nothing else. I find HCS seems to be a whining board more than anything else.

So what you are saying , that this sleds problems is due to riders error ( abuse) or the forums on HCS , correct.

Not sure where you are going here........yes I think a lot of the issues rider related. People are getting on the sleds cold and jamming the gas. Not warming up the belts at all and also not properly breaking the belts in. Have there been issues.....yes.......but its not all the sleds fault. As for HCS I can't rmember the last time I saw much positive over there.

There are two members here that jumped ship last year and got the Cat Turbo. One sold his last week and bought an Apex with me yesterday while the other sold his cat today. He's now looking for a deal like we got on our Apex's. What does this tell you??

Having a $60 Yamaha belt in a heavy outdated Yamaha and being able to get thousands of miles from it is priceless!! ;)!

Fact is the they do blow belts! For the price you guys are paying for the belts is a ripoff and Cat should have an answer by now regardless of the power you are making...

I will say I have never blown a belt on any Yamaha I have owned and have abused them plenty ( 2 Phazers, 2 Exciters,1 Vmax 4, 2 SRXs, 2RX1's and a Vector and a Apex.) I do always break them in and check them pretty regularly. I also only use the stock OE belts. At 2k+miles I usually use them as a backup and put a new one in.

delam

I have not blown a belt 8DN on the ole Apex aka "Ironsides" but I have had the top of the belt come off or deliminate.

No kidding... but then again the Yamaha clutching system is just magical. You can criticize Yamaha when it comes to weight or in certain areas of chassis design, but the engine and transmission-drivetrain combo is the best in the biz. Bar none.

I've got 8800 miles on my Viper and I am on the 2nd belt. I put the original on the spare holder at 5000 miles and took off the new spare just because. Doing the math that one has 3800 on it. No issues and checking the belts over with a calipers there hasn't been very much wear on either belt. Unreal!!!!

As for the clutches I recently put in a few new bushings. They were not terrible but I did it again just because. I can't believe how durable their clutch system is. They struggled in the '80s and early '90's but when they developed this YXR system which came out in 1995 they hit the nail on the head.

6500 miles on my Vector and still breaking in my first belt :) It still rides high in the secondary, and hasn't worn out the primary at all (some say the 8DN makes grooves in the primary but I haven't seen that yet on my sled).
