At what point do grooves in the sheaves of a primary clutch become too much? My 05 Venture RS has some grooving on the sheaves should I toss it ??

I believe the grooves are caused by that 8DN belt. I took mine off at under 1,000 miles when my sled was brand new and replaced it with an Ultimax 3 #138-4432 U3 after my dealer polished out the grooves the best he could. Now there are some better belts available in the market place then my replacement above but all are much better then the 8DN. I now have 8200 miles showing and with no additional groove marks .

The yamaha belts last forever but they do in turn wear the sheaves more due to their harder compound. Riding style also contributes to grooving. Steady throttle trail cruising will groove a clutch as belt sits at same spot on sheaves.

I switched to the XS 805 belt last year after good luck with the Ultimax 3. I'm a big fan. These two belts seem to slip less, with less belt dust and clutch wear.
