I searched but didnt find what Im looking for. Going to be picking up a powderlites kit from dave shortly and the only concern is installing the headshim. high octane doesnt bother me to run, I have a good supplier but just wanna install the way the kit was designed with his valve timing to avoid less probs and enjoy the ride that much more. I have done a few 4 stroke rebuilds (not to many but a few) with great success, just not familiar yet with the yammi (both sled and motor since I just picked it up)

Whats the masses take on doing just the head shim? Is it really that hard/technical?? What are the trix if any to doing it??? Glad to be on the 4s and cant wait to boost it! Thanks fellas!

There is nothing really difficult to installing the shim, just takes a bit of time. There is an engine build post at the top of the forum that might be helpful, plus there are a number of guys on here that can talk you through a problem if you get hung up.

Veedy's Alpine turbo install video is a good starting point, it tells you pretty much everything you need to know (basically). I'm sure Dave will be more than willing to answer any of your questions as well. Just make sure you have it clear in your mind what has to be done before you start, take your time and all in all it's pretty staight forward.

Is there any special tools that it takes to take the engine out.

Nope, all you need is a good set of metric wrenches/sockets. Pneumatic pipe wrench is nice, but not necessary... :tg:

Depending on who's method you choose to use you may need a dial torque indicator for torquing the head back on and a really narrow set of feeler guages are handy for setting the valves. The ones I've done I've torqued the head to Yamaha specs but these are all sleds running under 14 lbs boost.

I can't believe nobody said it yet . ........get a Yamaha service manual !!
Makes it much easier.

I do have a yamaha service manual, it says that I need some special tool to take the engine mounting bolts out of my nytro. I was just wondering if this tool is really needed. :moon:
