After looking at the size of the RED HC spring and the stock black spring on a Nytro XTX, I've decided I am going to need something to compress the spring.
My question is, what size rod do I need to compress the spring on to the clutch so I can can start threading the 6 smaller bolts.

the best way to do this is to lay a rag on the floor and compress the spring with your knee. Hold the cover with both hands, Start to compress the spring and as soon as you can get your hands on the movable sheave grab it and pull it up. Then take one hand off and put a bolt into one of the towers and screw it in. Try to get at least two bolts into the clutch.

I have the red spring in my Nytro right now. That's how i did it. I've been using that red spring since 1998 with the old style heel clickers in my srx. You just have to be careful.

I do not recommend doing this method as although it works there is a good chance you will destroy the cover bushing....if you dont have access to a tool like mine (dummy clutch tool) then go to a hardware store and get 3 longer versions of the cover bolts......use the loger ones in a radial tightening fashion (to keep the cover tightening straight) till you can start and take over with the oem bolts...

You must have better balance then I do...that red spring is a b&%ch....LOL

Yeah.. I could stand on the red spring and not have it compress enough to put the bolts in and I weigh 185. Bolt tool with 5/8 rod and a series of washers the best.
