The sled had 136 studs I took out the outer edge studs. I may install the rest in another pattern in the center only. I need to ride it more.

144 in centre, or 168 but it will b a tad harder to steer. the 168 will give u a slight more traction off holeshot over the 144

well I give up, I loosened the track as much as I could and I still have the vibration at 45 and up. I guess I will just pull the studs back out

Do you have any bars that do not have any studs on it? If so, that is your problem. If not check your drive axle bearings and or jackshaft bearings....
For the amount of studs on an Apex is this... Run no more then 144 singles, down the center for trail riding. 168 and stud the outside for strickly drag racing. Always stud closest to the rail.
If you want traction and want to run a min of amount of studs, always run 1 size over the recommended size. With the stock ripsaw track , they say to run 1.325" or 1.375", depending on the oem stud maker.
Having said this, I would run 1.450 studs... That's what I ran in my sled and it rocked..

That's your vibration. Put some in those bars and try it...

that will be 192 studs in the middle, that sounds like to much doesent it? the pattern is even all the way around and the previos pattern that was in there had empty lugs so why would that caust the vibration? I just dont want to drill anymore holes in my track if i dont have to

i have 144 1.35 in the middle and my friend has 240 1.450 spread out ..even on the edge. mine are singles his are mostly doubles...except for outside studs....he destroys me out of the hole and ill tell you......his sled is a trail monster. i cant even compare the traction he has to mine...i might as well of not even studded mine...its that bad.So i am pulling mine out and adding 1.450 studds and jumping to his pattern...which he made himself. no vibration and he can still slide in the corners if needed

The doubles and it being un-even is causing it.... Drilling holes and leaving them empty won't hurt a thing. They sell tracks pre-drilled.

I pulled the extras out yesterday and its back to normal. Id like to add them back but I dont want to have these issues. should I fill in the empty lugs which will give me 196 down the middle? or should I replace the old ones in there with new longer ones

I have 192 1.450 in mine. Both inside and outside. I keep them tightend as per the spec and have had no issues at all. No vibrations and it hooks like a bear. I have it regeared and clutched for bottom and midrange. Not really worried about super top speed. I've had it for 2 winters now and I have yet to find its top speed. I used the woodys template. used single and double backers. I think the trick to not ripping out studs is to ride in good conditions and keep them tightened.
Stud Length 2009 Yamaha Apex RTX
I have recently purchased a 2009 Yamaha Apex RTX. I studded the sled with 168 studs 1.500 in length, stainless steel Top Gun 2's. I have seen 2 problems so far. The track is not fully clipped and every third window is closed. The sled does not have internal external drivers, and with the length of studs it caused it to ratchet. I knicked the front heat exchanger aluminum that protrudes out of the heat exchanger. I am assuming this was due to the track not being tight enough and jumping the drivers. After tightening up the track, this cured the ratcheting (this occured at 38 miles, long before the track stretched) Is any one else running 1.500 studs with the 1.25 ripsaw? I know, I probably went to long, but man does it hook up nice. I assumed that with the beefey bulk head protectors and tunnel protectors, I would be okay, even with the softer compound of the ripsaw and the lug flex. I have not seen any marks on the rear tunnel or muffler guard. What else should I watch for? I am an old Skidoo die hard, converting to Yamaha. Thanks
