how to stop a seat rip?

My 06' Attak is developing a small tear in the seat at the bottom edge near the fuel tank. Are there any tricks to keep the tear from growing? Its just barely knicked now and I am afraid its going to open up into a large tear if I dont do something. Any ideas?

I'm a custom upholster and know all about vinyl. Was it caused by something catching it or is it chaffing on the edge of the seat frame? This makes a difference.

Can you take it off and warm it up alot with a hot towel over it for a few minutes then pull the ripped area under the seat and anchor it. Warm Vinyl will stretch quite abit if there is some lee way. You'll know in that it will come easy. That should do the trick.

If you can't then the best way is to take the cover off completly and glue and or sew a piece behind it.

Chafing on edge of seat. I am guessing there is a post on here somewhere on removing the seat?

What would i secure it with once stretched?

just like the cover is stapled.....if it's warmed enough to stretch....you can add another stable into the seat frame on the good side ....this is what I did with mine..cant tell and has held nicely

regualr staple gun staple? or a pound in tack type. sorry to be dumb but never did uphoulstery... and can;t spell it either.

is the seat a pain to remove?

seat is easy to remove...need to use upholstery staples...actually if you take it to an upholstery shop....should only be about $5-10.00..

will i need a new cover for the small rip at edge and to get stiffer foam put in?

Not sure if you would need a new cover but if you are planing to replace the foam with a stiffer type and possibly more of it, it may not be a bad idea. Also I would trim or at least reshape the area in the front of the seat where it meets the tunnel. That's were I had the issue anyway. Here's a pic of what the seat cover wold look like.

If the seatframe is chaffeing the vinyl you will need to put a layer of batten to protect the vinyl. WallyWorld sells sheets of it. It will then be o.k.
If using a firmer foam you won't need to do anything. Make sure it is good a warm were your working. Or soak the seat cover in very warm water just before putting it on. It's a no brainer job if it's stapled. Glued seat covers to frame is more trickier.
