I'm not sure if you guys remember me but my names Jordan and I was on here a lot awhile back when i was going to get my new sled. I drove 6 hours to the winnipeg sled show, and i had my mind set on a 2007 RTX. I had my paper filled out and everything about what sled i was going to snowcheck, even sealed and in the envelope with the stamps on it. But i backed out at the last minute. I decided to save my 15 grand and just stick with my 550 fan Ski-Doo REV which is actually a good sled. The only reason i really did this is because i'm only 18, working a 9 dollar an hour job at the moment, and i have to think of my future like school and future job. Plus i will be needing a vehicle soon. I love the sport and i put on about 3500-4000 kilometers a year. And i really love the new yamaha's but i guess ill just have to wait. But the good news is the sleds always get nicer :). I just thought i would let you guys all know what i ended up deciding and that i would just like to say thanks to all the people that gave me a lot of information about the sleds, and to all that gave me answers to my important questions. This is a great site and ill be on it again, hopefully next time ill be buying a new yamaha for sure though.

Crappy news thought is that my buddy bought a 2002 SRX 700 so i won't be able to keep up to him on the lakes haha

thanks

Apex 18 .... good for you!! You are doing the right thing, save your $$$$ for your education. Get that taken care of first and good things may come your way. Besides, by the time the 08"s roll out, you would be kicking yourself in the pants, wishin' that you could get rid of that old out dated 07' and mount up on the state of the art 08'. It never ends!!!

you have a lot more will power than me! i have always put my toys first. it has been rough at times in the past, but all is good now. you sound like a smart guy. keep it up!

Smart man, hats off to ya.

Just think, next year you should be able to get that sled a lot cheaper as the Canadian dollar will be on par with the American dollar and Yammy will have no reason to gouge us Canadians anymore.

Currently: 2007 RTX ER list $14299 CDN ... $10599 U.S.
What's up with that? Wake up Yammy!

Sorry, got off topic.

Again, good move.

smart thinkin' if you need a srx to keep up with his...I've got one in the ty classifieds forum and might even consider trades...(need something slower for the wife)

I also have a 2001 SRX in great shape that I would consider working out some type of trade for the 550 rev for my wife. Email me at jsverm@hotmail.com if interested.

Thanks Bill D

Very wise move young man :ORC
Fortunately you already have a nice sled ;)!

"Atta Boy" Apex18!

It's a pleasure to read about a man that has his priorities in the right order.

My grand father once told me; "Hard work is never unrewarded".

It's a lot nicer to be able to work "smarter" though.

Best of luck in the future! ;)!

I was kinda in the same spot.. Two years ago I could have bought a new sled is spread myself real thin... But held out one more year and it paid off in the long run.. I always wanted an EFI 4stroke.. Kept telling everyone one would be coming someday and I would have one.. Well now I ride a 06 Attak..

Apex 18, you seem like a very smart person. Congrats on your decision to NOT buy. When I was your age I had a very wise accounting teacher in high school teach me a very simple concept...."NEVER finance a depreciating asset." He sat me down with a business calculator for about 1/2 hour and illustrated how it's the worst possible financial move you can make, and after a few years of doing so it's the equivalent of taking a 25% paycut or even more, depending on how many things you're making payments on. By not financing things, not only are you earning interest instead of paying interest, but you also have negotiating power that people who finance can only dream of...carrying a large envelope with 10's of 1000's in cash in your hands is a very difficult and rare negotiating tool that a car/boat/snowmobile dealer will NOT ignore when you start to walk out the door without giving it to them! The price of your product will suddenly drop very quickly under such circumstances. The truth is I can simply buy most things cheaper than others can because of the long-forgotten power of cash-in-hand that so few people use these days. That teacher's advice really stuck with me over the years and I can say with absolute confidence that he was 100% correct.

The only loan I have EVER had in my life is the mortgage on my home (an appreciating asset, therefore not a bad financial move), and that too is going to be paid off before long. All my life I only buy things that I can pay cash for (sure I might finance it for zero percent and pay it off before interest kicks in, or throw it on a credit card that gets paid off in full every month for zero interest). But if I can't afford to pay cash for something, I simply do not buy it, and instead I save money and EARN interest instead of PAYING interest until I can buy it for cash.

Such dicipline has rewarded me far more quickly than I thought. On a rather modest salary I live in a beautiful home, own 4 nice cars, a boat, snowmobiles, dirtbikes, take several family vacations per year (overseas sometimes), putting kids thru college without any loans, etc. Plus I've banked a very large sum toward an early retirement. Many of my friends make a considerably larger salary than I do have a lower standard of living and a great amount of debt, and they have made no significant progress toward their retirement years. They look at me like I have 2 heads when I come home with a brand new crew cab 4x4 and they jokingly ask me how much per month THAT's gonna set me back, and my answer to them is zero...I just paid for it a few hours ago.

Mark my words, a few short years of diciplined saving and living without will reward you with many decades of very good living with very low stress levels. Unlike people sprinting from paycheck to paycheck to make their monthly payments on everything, if I suddenly lose my job or take a big pay cut for some unforseen reason I have almost nothing to lose...and that peace of mind is priceless.

Keep up the smart decision-making!

im also 18 and graduating this year-actually in 4 days....but i am not going to college, since i already have my own business established. i will eventually go to tech school for probably some type of masonry or concrete work and expand in that area a little bit but im not too sure yet. i just think there are too many kids that go to college and have no idea what there going to major in...costly mistake since my parents will not be assissting in any further education for me, which is fine since there not gaining anything from it. goodluck apex18
