Has any one rode the two sleds who could give me an honest comparison on these two sleds. Or better yet has anyone ridden with someone who has a summit 1000 or 800. If they are even somewhat close in perfomance the quality of the apex would get me to jump ship, unless there are problems with apex mountain that I don't know about. And does anyone know of a dealer that has Ski-doo and yamaha, so they may be interested in taking in a trade. Thanks,

Is that 1000 Doo as light as they claim. Besides the weight advantage, I've been told that the Doo's sidehill and boondock alot easier. I've yet to try the 1000 Doo. Hopefully this week, if my buddy can find the key's to his garage!! LOL. The Yamaha is easily 620 LBS Dry. But not Certain how close. Hopefully the seed cleaning plant is open this week so I can check that as well.

I'm sure it is somewhat lighter but not enough to make much differance. I say that because I did ride with many 800s that are much lighter, and the 1000 out performed them in every way.

I traded my rt for apex, stock rt is faster. Apex steers easier and is easier to ride after getting used to apex. After the turbo ,you will not want anything else.

The apex has some clutching issues I think because I was neck and neck with an 800 summit with reeds and a can. The apex should do better than that. We were field dragging in 2ft deep powder. Weight haunts the blue and white again!

Don't get me wrong...I love my Apex Mtn., It did leave the 800 X 159" standing at the alter on a harder packed trail !! Thus the clutching problem I believe there might be with the Apex. It also could be related to my machine only! :4STroke: The 800 X also used 2 full tanks of fuel that day...vs. my 1 1/4 !!! ;)!

apex vs rt

I have a friend that rode nothing but big cats for years. He bought a new rt and hated it. Sold it in the first year. He rode my apex mt this year and is going to buy one next year. He said he had no problem handling it. He only weighs 150 dripping wet. However my sled does weigh 620 lbs full of fuel.

My girlfriend at 125 pounds has no problem riding the Apex MT she must be tougher and better than a lot of the guys on here. :moon:

Your right all it tak es is some riding ability. Some people are better off to stick to the groomed trails.

I have ridden both and prefer the Apex. Apex handles much better in the powder and is easier to throw around and carve. RT1000 is good too, but you have to work at it and get up into the power band to make it work for you. Apex carves without thinking about it and does better over a broad range of speed and power. Also boondocking at slow speed in deep snow the RT1000 seems to get stuck more often. Both sleds are a lot of fun and the RT1000 is probably better in some areas, but the Apex suites my riding style much better.

Stock to stock the RT will outclimb the Apex but the Apex outhandles it. Modded with a turbo the Apex is in another league and still runs pump gas.

Keep in mind that you can't always blame the machine I've seen a guy out ride a complete mountain mod with a stock moutain max 700 remember it's not always the arrow it's the indian!! I switched from a summit 800 for my new apex and there re some things I miss on my summit but after a few rides you don't miss hauling extra gas everywhere and being towed out of areas with blown engines or smashed chaincases cause its "lighter" doesn't mean it's better. ;)!

You are going to get outmarked every single time with an Apex in stock form when comparing to a Summit 1000. We ride with one and he outclimbs everyone I know.
