I talked to Bender today

I use a K&N with a silicone treated prefilter. It works really well. Another key issue is to get your filter out from under the seat so it can intake cold air.

Thanx alot for the pics Woodsrider, but I'm not sure about having my filter stick out like that?? How important is this? I realize you want the air as cool as possible, but did you notice a differance after placing it outside, would it not see even more snow dust at that location? Does anyone have any alternatives??? Thanx again Woodsrider......Scott

This is what I ran into with the stock configuration. On the Vector, Bender was running a dual exhaust system. This put a tremendous amount of heat at the intake of the turbo. Under heavy powder and boondocking conditions the sled would load up from all the hot air it would pull in (due to lack of air flow across turbo while snaking through the trees). In fact, one trip it got so frustrating that I had to go back. That night I installed the intake as the pictures show and I have never had any trouble since.

The key is to use a silicone impregnated prefilter (eliminates the freezing of mositure to the prefilter; just tap it when snow sticks to it and it cleans right off) and a fitting that kicks the filter around behind the seat so you don't kick with your foot. My brother actually uses a 180 to get it right behind the seat. The fitting I used was a vacuum cleaner brush adaptor from Home Depot. I just pulled the brush out. It is made of plastic (light weight) and works great! i would suggest you give it try anyway, it made a tremendous difference in the performance of our sleds.

You may have noticed from the pictures, that I even drilled holes in the cowling around the air filter. It helped but didn't cure the problem like the external filter intake does.

Ill try get a pic of my mcx apex and what i did on it. Similar to woodsrider but my filter it half out of the cowling and half in this keeps it from freazing.you could do it easily on the rx1 to because you have the big exaust caps.Do you have the exaust on both sides?

I still have the exaust caps, covers etc on both sides but only the one side (clutch side) is used, the other is open to aid with air intake.

I fabricated an aluminum air box on the tunnel extension and have 2 K&N filters inside - both with prefilters. We have so much sugar snow here in AK I thought I needed to 'over' kill the solution of condensation with the original Bender design. Looks like crap but works well.

Thanx so much guys, and sorry for sounding like a dick but it kinda does look like crap, lol . Although I do like your idea of overkill, I'm the same way, but not willing to sacrifice cosmetics (quite that much anyways). That system would have great filtration, but I'm looking for a happy medium something that has good filtration but doesn't look that bad!! Thanks alot guys, Scott

You can also build a plate to go in between the hot and cold sides of the turbo. I got the instructions from spray on this forum. I built the divider out of aluminum and it works great. The heat from the exhaust stays on that side and the colder air is on the other side. I'm sure some heat still gets through, but it has to help and it was easy to make.

Next year I will try the one K and N filter off the back right side without the box. This winter/spring we had so much dry, cold snow - it turns like sugar here in the Interior of Alaska. Folks folllowing me said that I looked like a vacum sucking up the snow with the exhaust. After five to eight miles I would open the drain value on the intercooler (I had welder on) and a least a pint would drain out. Whenever folks ask me what the heck the box was for - I tell them it holds my beer ;)!
Goals for next year:
Stiffer rear suspension - if they make different springs as well as an Oliin rear shock
Billeted caps for the carbs
Apex seat
