Inside idler wheels...again..

What do the trashed wheels look like? I'm curious, because in 3500 miles on our Vector, with the so called low life inner wheels, they are perfect!! I don't know why, my son beats this thing pretty good. It is NOT studded, however, but even my 06 RTX wheels are fine after about 1700 miles. What's killing all these wheels? I do know the stock wheels are 'flexible'..many times after a ride, they run out axially...but can be 'formed' back to run true..they actually bend and take a set. Maybe they get 'bent' and the friction from the wobble ruins them? My sleds go into the garage after done riding, and I check and straighten them. I also have yet to lose a track clip, and this after a full day of grass/frozen dirt dragging..the sleds don't see much mercy, but have held up well????

Dude,
are the Poo wheels narrower that the stock Yami wheels? I know they decrease hyfax wear because of a larger diameter.

My stockers lasted 50 miles, dealer gave me these ones under warranty. They lasted 1550 miles and were destroyed by dozens of holeshots and 100mph runs on a gravel road with almost zero snow. I can't complain about the Yamaha wheels. If I always rode in perfect snow conditions, I think they'd last for ever.

Gotta love these east coast trails this year!

Atleast you have some rubber left on those replacements, my OE wheel had nothing left but plastic after the 1st 50 miles. And I was riding on snow and ice, not gravel.

I was not referring to the wheels that came on the sled. They were junk.

Quieter wheels? My sled makes so much noise, I can't hear my wheels. Even if I could hear them I wouldn't be able to tell where the noise was coming from. Some of you must have great hearing.

Most of the pressure on the track is near the rails. The outside wheels take the most pressure. That's why the inside studs wear less. When you turn, where does the weight go? To the outside wheels.

Nobody answered the track guide issue, moving the wheels closer to the lugs. How on earth can anybody say that narrow hyfax wears better? Conditions are the main factor in slide wear. I don't think putting all the weight on a smaller surface will reduce wear. Thing about 1/2" hayfax compared to 2' hyfax. Do you really think 1/2" will wear longer? Why did Yamaha go to the wider hyfax?

Someone please answer my main point. If machining the mounts is so important, won't slide width be more important, to protect the wheels?

OK sorry, I misunderstood you the first time about the wheels.
My sled too has a terrible exhaust drone / vibration / harmonic at 5000 rpm 20 mph slow trails. Almost unbearable in my helmet, feel it in the handlebars and floorboards.

I can't speak from experience on the narrow hyfax, I did read in some thread here that the theory was the narrower allows more snow / lube to get to the hyfax... I am probably like you and question the available surface area and pressure the different width hyfax displaces then.
Probably less resistance so you get more top speed?

They're not bad...shoulda seen some of my old doo wheels..the cast aluminum ones would split in thirds...LOL. Every drag, I find wheels laying on the track..usually doo wheels, to.
At least most of the rubber is still on.

Has the wheel issue been addressed in the 08' sleds??? Any reports of 08's shredding their wheels?

Just wondering if getting OEM wheels is an option if I can't get the spoke style ...

Thanks... ;)!

we all know the original 06 wheels and some 07 wheels were falling apart the first ride out, less then 50 miles....they would WARP or simply chunk apart...

so I replaced all mine with the spoked wheels...the outer spoked wheels now still look perfect with near 4000 miles on them, while the inner ones have started to slightly chunk up(not too bad) at 4000 miles....

the inner wheels wont EVER last as LONG as outer wheels when you stud inside only....as most all of us have done.....if you stud outside the rails IMO all wheels will last similarly.

the thinner sliders last longer and run higher speeds on radar....simply due to the fact they allow more snow thru the windows, and they run MUCH COOLER then the stock wide sliders....this is what I have experienced....but do what you like.

once again, yammie wheels and skids are some of the worst for slider and wheel wear when compared to the other 3 manufacturers...

But if you add two wheel kits and thin slides...IMO you may NEVER have to change sliders.

I ordered the spoked from my local dealer on a Tues night, they had them in hand from Yamaha by Friday. They had the '08 wheels as replacements, but I still upgraded to these spoked wheels on recommendation from Rockerdans experience.

Plus I wanted to look as cool as he does... ;)!

The spoked wheels look cool. Black the only color?

No, come in colors too.

Here is the link to the post from ReX.

http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php? ... s&start=30

The part number is SMA-8FP38-01-xx (the last two letters indicates the color)

Talked to dealer, black spoke style SMA-8FP38-01-BK $26.95 CDN and 1 week to get in...
8ES-47310-41-00 (original replacement)...lots in stock...at $70 each, with non-removable bearings... :o|

Oh, well if the original replacements are more expensive then they MUST be better... How could we be so wrong?
LOL
:drink: :crap:

Thanks Dan, I was going to address the wider slides verses the narrower and wheel wear, but you beat me to it. yes I think the narrowers slides allow more snow for superior wear and cooler running.
Wheels? we all had that problem, any aftermarket or earlier Yammi, Doo or Poo are better.
Pic's in center of track equal more pressure on center wheels.

I see the spoked wheel in the catalog, but don't see black as an option. However, I notice in the posted pictures everone has black wheels. In the catalog they show blue, red, silver and grey available. Does anybody have the correct part number for the yamaha black spoked wheel?
