Basically just swapping out the stock handlebar on my 121" 2003 RX-1 for the handlebar from an RX-1 Mountain. I am looking for some extra height while maintaining a stock look.

Will I need cables as well? I.e. will I need an extended brake line? Extended throttle cable? I am thinking that I may need the mountain throttle cable but will get away without the extended brake line.

Also wondering about the grab bar... I would like to swap out the limp Yamaha one for a good rubber one that will hold its form better. Any suggestions?

I believe you will need some extensions for your rx1 anything about 2inches over the stock riser you will need extensions I think powermadd has a grab bar.

Think I'll keep the soft grab bar after talking to some folks.

As for the throttle cable, it's only a straight-line one, I'll go after a new/used RX-1 mountain throttle cable I think. How about the brake line?

I used my stock bars and put on yamaha strap on them with a 4" pivot riser and the cables will clear because your moving the bars forward with the pivot which give's it extra clearance and if you use a block riser it pulls the bars back over the seat and you have to sit back farther which gives you worse handling on your sled. The max you can go with risers is
block +2"
pivot +4"

I understand about the pivot riser, but I do not like the look of aftermarket risers. I will try the Yamaha RX-Mountain bars to maintain a stock appearance; the investment for a throttle cable/brake line will be worth it to me if the look is not compromised.

well i tried the stock yamaha mtn bars and didnt notice too much difference in height. im 6'1" and they werent tall enough for me. i know u will have to change the throttle cable, but the brake hose should be fine, as long as u dont put a block or pivot riser on there. i just found it a lot easier to buy a powermadd pivot adapter, powermadd 6" block riser, and a set of pro-taper bars. thats the setup im currently running and i wouldnt change it back.

I too was thinking about doing that. I changed my mind because a pivot is more functional for our RX dinosaurs.

I have the PowerMadd pivot riser w/2" block. I'm 6'6" and it worked out great. Didn't need the Mountain cables after all either. However, you need to be aware of the windshield clearance on full turn if you are going to use handguards. Otherwise a 3" or 4" will put them WAY up there and out of the way for you.

4Fighter,

Send me some pics of your handlebar area... I want to see how the pivot riser looks.

I don't know if you'll need the cables or not. I sold my brake line, throttle cable and my stock bar pad when I switched to my Fly Racing Setup. If you take the time to clean up the wiring mess by relocating the connections to under the hood and using wire loom to wrap the wiring; the final look is really nice IMHO. You can also use just the mountain pad over you stock bars with a 3" or 4" pivot riser. Here is a picture of my stock mtn bars with a 2" pivot (Sportech ABR) and 3/4" MPI block riser along with a picture with the Fly Racing setup.

I have the stock brake line and throttle cable assembly off of my 2003 Mtn Rx-1 if someone needs them. Make me an offer. I put on a Rox riser and stainless brakeline so the stockers came off the sled.

Thanks for letting me know about your cables, I would have jumped on those items, but another member has already offered a mtn throttle cable to me.

Is the mtn brake line longer than stock?
