How difficult is it to remove the instrument panel from the Viper? I want to mount a gps but have to get under the those black pieces of plastic that run right beside the steering post to tighten the bolts for the gps mount. I attached a pic for reference.

Not very hard at all. A couple fasteners and it's on the bench.
The entire instrument cluster snaps out as well. You'll see when you get down there.
Plan your drill points. My Ram Mount top fastener is really close to the inner instrument cluster.
Absolutely use NyLock nuts if this is what you have in mind. And just snug. We don't want to distort the plastic much.
The rear legs, that you noted about the dash cluster, clips into the hood. Amazing, there's really not much to it.

Did you put something behind ram mount so it match the curve of the plastic?

OSP makes a nice mounting plate that adds a spot for a PCV or GPS just above the interments. Nice part is it doesn't require any drilling or modification. May want to check them out before drilling anything... http://www.ospracingparts.com/yamaha-7000-viper-pc5-dash-gauge-mount-powder-coated/

Its not hard at all. To get the black piece in your picture off you have to remove the hood. There are two screws at the bottom of the hood and two on the side both by the front bumper. I think there are also two more on the sides under the side panels. Lift it off and the black part is held on by four screws by the gauges and two underneath. I have had mine a apart a bunch of times to install gauges and Power Supply. Take your time and you will be fine.

Yep, sounds about right. It really is easy. May take a few extra minutes the first time you do it, but after that its really easy. I can have mine apart in 10 minutes.not hard at all. I did not. Just washers and snug nylocks. It does not sit perfectly flush. But plenty stable, and secure, for any hand held gps.Did you put something behind ram mount so it match the curve of the plastic?

You may be able to get at what you need to by just removing the gauge. Is at least a 4in hole once removed and its crazy easy to remove it. Reach up where goggle bag is and on each side of gauge you will feel two protrusions. Just squeeze them and gauge pulls right out. Takes only a second or two.
