Please HELP,
Can anyone tell me what I should do to the intake valve timing after installing two head gaskets. I know I should slot the cam sprocket and rotate the cam counterclockwise....but how much? I have a copy of MC's procedure but I don't know how thick their gasket is. It looks like my exhaust cam is VERY SLIGHTLY right of the mark and if I put intake sprocket on that cam goes slightly to the right also. Man, it is so slight. When I took this thing apart the cams were not lined up perfectly with those marks but I had accidently loosened chain tentioner too early in the process, I guess I should have made some marks or at least taken some pictures. What a dumb A!@. Anyway, I am not even the width of the punch mark off. I wish I had a degree wheel and knew how to use it. Maybe I should buy one. Anyone know how to use one? Any ideas, suggestions, would be greatly appreciated.

Brother you are brave. I typically do everything myself.... except for this motor. I use a Yammy mech for this beast. Good luck, Im sure someone will help you out.

Seems like MCX gasket is around .067" You need to double check it if its a Cometic to make sure it doesnt have this flaw or you will be pulling you head again.

The 06 gaskets are thinner than the '05s , if this is an rx1 2 gaskets gives you 0.54 . I have two rx1s with the 0.54 gaskets that I didn't change the cam timing on and they run great.

You doing an Apex or an rx1 ?

Same here dont touch it! If you do three you should! Mine sled ROCKS with two and stock timming!

Hey Freak

Don't mistake bravery for damned stupidity. It will be a miracle if this thing runs. :ORC I have to admit it has been a lot of fun. I love taking things apart, it's getting them back together that usually causes me to drink. More. LMAO

Just be sure and keep those valve lash caps in the right place when it goes back together and don't take anything apart that you don't have to. And use the right mark when you time it.

For every .010" change in head gasket thickness, you will have a .371 degree change on the cam. This will only change the cam timing mark .003". If you wanted to slot the bolt hole for the cam sprocket to put it back to stock it would require .006" of slot opening for every .010" of gasket thickness. So for you puting in an extra .030" gasket, and you don't plan on adjusting your cams, your timing mark on the cams should have only changed .009". If your off any more than that, something is wrong.

Slacker,
Awesome! That's what I love about this sight, someone always has the answer. Thanks, things went back together pretty well so far. Keeping my fingers crossed for when I fire it up.
