Is there a better quality oil filter than the oem yamaha one? I switched to Mobil one and the filter# that mobil one gave me looks to be to long. So I thought I would see what everyone is using. Thanks for the help Mike.

I run a longer wix/autopro filter (can't remember the part #) but I have the roest plate...would stick with the shorter filter if you still have the plastic POS.

Just noticed that you have the skid plate so I would say go for it...

k&n has a nut welded to the end for easy removal with a box end or socket wrench..

So with the plate on I am good to run the longer Mobil one tilted? What length it the wix filter? I don't want to go to long.

Not sure on the lenght but it's maybe 1-2 cm longer then the OEM...it is the same size filter that is used on the Grizzly 660 which I have also used on my XTX. I can buy 5 longer filters for the price of one of the short ones...this allows me to change my filter after every oil change which IMHO is a good thing. and wix makes a quality filter.

Did some searching for you...

Sorry, no numbers, but I use a Hi-Flo filter on my Vector.

Story I got was, Hi-Flo makes many filters for a variety of manu's including Yamaha.
Not sure if that is the truth but I do know they are quality filters and I have been running them this 2005 in my Grizzly and now my Vector.

The bonus is they only cost about half of what Yamaha charges for one ;)!

Just ordered a K&N filter off ebay for $12. Going to try that this year, I like the idea of the nut on the end. Last year I used a yamaha filter.

the k&n sounds awesome. Hardest thing about doing the oil change is getting the damn filter wrench into that tight compartment. That bolt would be a dream.

I like the nut idea. But I was unaware that I could use the longer filter with the plate in the sled so I might go with the Mobil one (M1MC134) just to match the oil and I use them on everything else I own.

To my knowledge, not a single FX Nytro did blow an engine because of insufficient OEM oil filter capacity. However, there are couple of them that ended up in serious trouble because of interference problems caused by non-OEM filters...

Also, there is not really any need to use bulky oil filter wrenches or filters with welded on nuts. There is already a perfect fitting socket existing for the OEM filter. You can order it through any Yamaha dealer.

I think what guys are saying is a longer filter will have longer, or more filter media, which of course will catch more crud.

I I had room on my Vector I also would have a longer/larger filter.

Also, not saying the OEM filter is not good, I think most on here know that lots exist that are just as good if not better, and can be purchased for about half of what Yamaha charges.

This is why I changed to AMSoil and a K&N filter. Why pay more when you can pay less for something that is just as good if not better.

Maybe it's a CDN thing Newfie as those are my exact same thoughts as well ;)!
