I grew up in the era of some of the great guitar players. Later Hendrix, Clapton, SRV, Eddie Van Halen and of course Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin. I know I've missed others of this era and i'm sorry if I missed your favorites.

As we recently started using internet TV, I find myself watching YouTube video's of these great bands. And after watching a number of Led Zep video's last night, I can say without a doubt that, IMO, Jimmy is the greatest guitar player of his era. He's usually ranked in the top 4 of greatest guitar player rankings and Hendrix is #1. Hendrix is indeed awesome, but JP is still a level above him.

Was just thinking about this and wonder who everybody else likes? Who are your favorites?

Someone once asked Hendrix what its like being the greatest guitar player, He replied " I don't know. Ask Johnny Winter"

Grew up listening to that list among others and to this day (for me) NOTHING makes my hair stand up quicker than EVH at full whack! You can feel the energy in the stadium rise right before his solo.

Jim if you get a chance on youtube look up Yes playing "Heart Of The Sunrise" on there. There should be one from around 2015- it was one of the last tours Chris Squier was on before he passed. Kansas had an incredible performance of "Carry on Wayward Son" along with some great performances from Toto playing live. Oh and there is some great footage of Emerson, Lake, and Palmer before Keith Emerson passed as well. I know not all of them are "guitarists" per se- but bands of immense talent.

But to answer the other question, I'm a bassist, and I have a sweet spot for them- so watching Geddy Lee still to this day just blows my mind along with old Chris Squier and Nathan East.

Bassist here too, but had to stop due to injury. John Entwistle, the guy from Styx, Geddy, Stanley Clarke. I never thought JP Jones was that good but WTF do I know! Thanks 700....will look them up!

Page...the way he played and the music he wrote is incomparable...

The Ox!

Cant deny the greats like Page, Hendrix, Clapton, SRV and EVH.

Ace Frehley? Lindsey Buckingham?

Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen and Steve Vai can really play. Not my cup of tea, but they have skills.

What about guys today like Joe Bonamassa and Gary Clark Jr?

If you like rock guitarists check out Mike McCready, Jerry Cantrell and Kim Thayil.

Why not Keith Richards also ??

BB King??
ooh ooh ooh!!!!! BB was a great one!!!! no chords but it didn't matter one bit!!!

All listed so far are awesome for sure!
