I'm hesitant like you. But I'm afraid it's too late. She's loaded for Bear.I don't think you want to overfill with grease. You could be pushing on the crank some until it finds its way out? I have a kit and have not looked closely at this yet and could be wrong.
I'm being quite Frank with you. Tapp included very specific instructions on how to install. package came an envelope full of grease. If it was Tapp's wishes to use less or more grease, they should have disclosed that.

There’s no doubt it helped. I’m not disappointed in any way. I was skeptical about it quieting the clutch anyways. But there is definitely much less mechanical chatter in that area.im gonna do same, use most the package, got the shaft on bench... i mean even if it hepls it cheap n like half hr of work!

Even if you filled the whole cavity, I don't see any issues myself. The o-ring isn't going to keep it all in if it gets pressurized with heat expansion. Still going to be air volume in there. Keep in mind there is also a hole in the end of the crankshaft to fill also.

They weren't specific enough to state how much grease to use!

Bud....I just call a spade a spade.no they did not. Which leaves you to assume. They weren't specific enough to state how much grease to use!
But as others have said. It will be ok.
Who knows.... There's a cavity at the end of the snub shaft where all extra grease goes regardless. I'm hoping when it heats up it's slowly starts allowing that additional grease to flow down into the spines. Thus not needing it to be greased for years to come. Lol. That's just my hopeful take on things.

I half the package in mine due to someone stating they tapped to the Tapp guy and said there was enough for 2 applications. Will see if that goes!
Agree, there's only so much grease you can put in there because you're only trying to take up space between the teeth in the spline mesh. Any more is a waste if there is lower end oil present.I don't think you want to overfill with grease. You could be pushing on the crank some until it finds its way out? I have a kit and have not looked closely at this yet and could be wrong.

Just got of the phone with Tapp. Half the bag is all that's needed. Told me I should remove stub shaft and take some out. Ask why and was told to use at a later point.
So I'm not taking it apart and we'll report what happens as time goes by
But for you guys who have not installed your kit. Now you know what the recommended amount is.

I'm just thinking the spline is only going to hold so much grease Mike. Whether it get's flushed out by oil or heat it's not going to stay in there. Yes it might last a short season and that's awesome because we all know the effects that the vibration has on the rollers. I'm going to be the guinea pig here and go with a NLGI #3 grease. I think the heavier grease has a better chance of staying in the spline.Even if you filled the whole cavity, I don't see any issues myself. The o-ring isn't going to keep it all in if it gets pressurized with heat expansion. Still going to be air volume in there. Keep in mind there is also a hole in the end of the crankshaft to fill also.

Ok, as some of us should be..Not very happy about this.
I suppose if this needs to be done, I'm going to consider Fatchance's thoughts on replacing with a better, more appropriate product.
Carry on.

Tim I gotta say the clutch rattle really bothered me when my 17' cost me $14,789. That made the purchase of the TAPP justifiable. With the 24' @ $20,000+ the clutch rattle is unacceptable. The fact that Yamaha never did anything about this is Just plain pitiful. Clearly they had no pride in their product at this point and were just mailing it in! TAPP is already on the new sled, but I'm curious to see what advantages this knock out kit may provide.I am waiting this one out. The clutch rattle has never bothered me.
Why didn't yamaha just drill a hole in the crank to pump pressurized oil into the spline?

Thankfully we have this forum for that.

So, I take it that Hurricane weighted stubshaft gizmo fix didn't work?
