Yes, same here. I will be buying the LCD screen for the gopro.
My GoPro has an indicator light when it's recording, turning it on/off is pushing 1 button on the top.
Just bought the LCD backpac last night at Best Buy, $87 with tax. WILL be alot better to determine what I'm taping as mentioned.
Another cool mount I have is the roll bar one, had it on my bike about 1' off the ground- cool video seeing the rotors turning/ suspension working and the road right there. Got a few place on the sled for it as well

Still working on how to use the video editing software... Sometime before the snow flies.
You can go almost broke buying all these different mounts & accessories. $8 here- $20 for curved helmet mounts to $80 view/ battery add ons.

But wouldnt it be nice to have a button with indicator light right on the handlebars especially if camera is mounted to helmet?Cant see the light or hear the beep when the fun begins and only recourse is to let it run and spend hrs editing all the boring stuff out of the video.

A remote indicator (on the handlebars) would be really cool. I hear the Contour (Don't quote me on that) might the the HD camera that connects with bluetooth to your phone so you can see what the camera sees and control for record/stop.

GoPro has a WiFi version coming out doing same thing. Can control 50 cameras from one Wifi phone.Dont get me wrong its exciting but a simple little button with a light would be so nice.Kind of like turning the highbeams on.You know when you need them and instinctively know where the button is.I want that for the camera!

They also make WIFI SD card to so you can live feed the video directly to TV, laptop, can do images to. GoPro dont make it but companies that make other mounts for the GoPro and aftermarket lenses (normal view and for better underwater view, scratch guards) and cases have them.
As for knowing if its on I keep a fold mirror in my pocket or I use the speed as a mirror. Most of the time you can hear it if no engines are running but nice to double check.
Another trick to see were you have it in good spot is to cut notches like sights on the case and a Wrapping paper tube over the lens. Look around at it, think of the viewing angle, and see if you like it.

I got the remote, it is PITA to use. For some reason it only has the IR sensor on one particular side or edge. Once you find it, it works. I find it is mostly used when using the camera for playback with HDMI to a TV.
They also make a 1" RAM ball with a tripod screw on it. Screws right into the bottom of your playsport. I use it all the time on the bike and sled. Sorry that it is hindsight after you created your rig. I'm sure it will work fine.
Have fun and post links to your youtube videos once you have them up!!

On the mountain bike forums there are many discussions of the plastic tripod adapter breaking from vibration. I figured it would be even worse on a sled. That is why I made the bracket. Plus its alot more stable because of where the pivot point is.
I did test on my commuter bike riding to work using the custom bracket and just the tripid adapter. The videos are night and day with respect to quality. There is no shaking using my bracket whereas the video from using the tripod adapter is hard to watch. The Playsport was mounted to 2 locations - handlebar and rigid fork. The bracket is awkward to use sometimes but much better video.

Good point. third-party "Ram compatible" products may be made out of plastic.
The true RAM balls and tripod screws are made of coated metal. I'm guessing that is why they are so darned expensive. (that and the little ram logo)
I have so wanted to create a cheap line of plastic injected molded RAM compatible products for sportsman. They could be sold for half the price of most RAM adapters and mounts. But patent infringment could get kind of expensive.
If you have the actual one, you will know it by he weight. Not only is it stronger, but the weight my lessen the vibration. I noticed the angle of the ball, like you did, on my Buell. It's a big 1200cc Vtwin. It has a nice vibe to it at idle. Enough to make the iPod shuffle! HA!

Here is the latest mount I have purchased:
http://www.buybits.com/product/13781.aspx
This case is highly water resistant, but they advertise it as waterproof. I am going to use that one on the Buell in the spring, but mount it on the sleds this winter. It will allow me to run power out, and still touch the screen! It works awesome. I only hope the cold doesn't wack the iPhone.
That one is getting a 1" ram ball installed on it this week. It's way too easy to move it from machine to machine that way.

RAM does make a line of plastic mounts that are about 1/3 - 1/2 the cost of the aluminum ones. I think I will buy the plastics ones for the car GPS as I don't really need the aluminum for those.

Those are dirtball cheap compared to the RAM metal components. Are they legit? or just claim to be RAM components?
I guess it doesn't matter as long as they do what you want. I would go for that if the cold were not the factor.
Nice find!!

They are legit. I purchase all my RAM stuff from them. Great vendor to deal with. The versatility of the mounts can't be beat.
