Liquivac or drain oil tank

extra oil in Crank

I did my oil change this year. Drained the tank and the engine, had the plug off the top of the cylinder heads to vent
Drained it till nothing came out. For some reason I had to tilt the sled slightly on the side ~ 45 degrees and another half a cup of oil came out the crank. I was a little surprised that much came out.

I change my oil and filter once a year no matter how much I used it. It gives me a chance to check everything else over as well.

Amsoil claims 15k or 1 year, what ever comes first on the car or truck oil, and says to follow manufactures instruction for the power sports.

Time also plays a factor in oil life.

On the bold, definitely a once a year job, regardless of miles.

I know some people think because they are using synthetic they are safe/immune from oil failures but that simply isn't true.

What happens over the course of one year is the oil picks up contaminents like acid and carbon and that is why even Amsoil recommends the once a year oil change regardless of mileage, those things kill oil which in turn kill your motor.

Another thing I do when I am changing oil/filter is I rasie the front of the sled up after I have let most drain out while the sled is level.
You will get at least another 1/2 ltr of dirty used oil out of the oil tank, crank and filter areas.

Amsoil high quality synthetic claim you can get 15,000 miles between oil changes, add on a oil filtration kit and you can go to 50,000.

This is on a car or truck but I would think 2 seasons with amsoil on a sled would be resonable.

I talked to my auto mechanic about Amsoil oil filtration kit and you can get 50,000 + miles before changing oil. He says it works but what I got out of it all the same to him since filters have to be changed & you add oil that comes out with filter. lol Me I'll keep changing about 6000 to 7000 miles M1 oil & filter in my truck. The Apex just changed oil in Spring not filter for 1st time but only had 1200 to 1400 miles on that oil & filter due to litlle snow last year. Everything I read here over the years claims that oil quality is better with old filter when all mixes up. Can't say I remember why but made sense at the time. lol

For the amount of money oil and a filter cost, and the simplicity of the job, I simply can't fathom why anyone would NOT do a once a year oil/filter change.

$11k for a sled, sub $50 for an oil change.

Try to get 7-10-15k out of your oil? Really?

I agree. I change it at the end of the each season so the sled sits with new oil in it. Done this with my bike and mustang for 10 years and never a problem.
