I've done a ton of research on many sites and there's not that many folks modifying non boosted Apex Mnt. sleds ? There are a ton of highly modified RX-1's and all kinds of information on that forum but very little in comparison to the Apex. This is a bummer really because it has more potential then the RX-1 and is just about as cheap these days. :o|

I've done some work on mine...Stock motor
Timbersled A arms and front Fox Float shocks
Timbersled rear suspension and drop brackets
Mounatin Mod seat
TJ's under tunnel exhaust

About 90 lbs less than stock ;)!

I'm on the same program as Y-rider, and have really enjoyed my sled from the begining. 8200 miles; need to work on clutching and put the chain case and chain back together that I blew the other day, but just as much fun as any other mod!

Picture with the Mods... ;)!

rack and bumper?

You can loose another 10 lbs by removing the rack and factory rear bumper and going to a CR Racing bumper and simply auminum rack from any of the dozens of venders. It's a cheap 10 lbs too compared to some of the other mods. I like your sled, you can hardly tell it's modified...sleeper...cool!

That's the project for this summer. I 'm not sure about what I'm going to do with the brake light. With a new bumper I''ll be almost 100 lbs less than when I started :jump:

brake light

I've seen several TY guys with the nice little L.E.D. strip for a brake light and then I've seen some of the racks with nice little L.E.D. strips as part of the rack with the wires ran through the tubing.....some idea's anyway? I'd like to switch my hood to Polycarbonate or carbon fiber to loose more weight off the nose. Mount the guages down low on the riser (out of the way ) and run two PIAA lights, a lead dog light or maybe a sinlge 2" x 5" light on the hood. I wonder how much weight we could loose going with a chromo steering stem aluminum riser & chromo bars from CRRacing ? If we could loose 5lbs from the steering set up and another 10 lbs from the hood that would be nice!
I calculate the front end at:
steering as mentioned above 5 lbs
hood, lights and guages 10lbs
A-Arms 14lbs
battery relocation. 15 lbs
Radiator and fluid 4 lbs maybe??
sway bar and links 5 lbs maybe ??
( A maximum combined total of 48 to 52lbs approximately off the front )
Possibly a few lbs from different ski's......potentially powder pro's ....not sure on there weight compared to stock though?
I'd like to remove more off the nose but don't know of anything else to remove anyone have idea's?

I do have a modded RX1 but with an Apex efi engine.

I can tell you it will outperform an apex mountain in any category.

Here are major mods done to sled (you can do the very same mods on apex mth by the way)

162" x 3.0pitch x 15 x 2.25 track
AD-Boivin ZX2 151" skid with setback for 162"
Supertips clutch ramps/roller secondary (much much better than stock clutch setup)
Mountain mod Seat
Hindle exhaust
Apex mtn tunnel (remember... its a rx1)
Wildchild rider foward (even more foward than my apex...)
Apex mth riser and handlebar
Timber sled barkbuster front suspension
Fox floats in front.
DS-650 dry battery located on left side footwell (to help sled's weight balance)
Arctic cat M running board grips (and 'unrolled' running board to make them wider)
Aluminium suspension brackets (rear)
Removed rear tunnel brace
Apex sway bar
Simmons 10" skis.

These are the main mods doen to sled... many more but not performance related.

Sled weight 630# full of gaz ready to go. which means about 545# with no gas/oil/coolant
