low snow kit

The only reason I suggested other than the small wheels is because I have read some people losing them fairly quickly. Could be the brand they used (non-Yamaha?). The speed that these spin at makes them more likely to fail more quickly. I used two Yamaha kits on mine but I've only had about 1000 Km on them and don't ride really fast so can't say anything about their reliability yet. There was one post in particular I remember reading that talked about these wheels that failed really fast due to cheap bearings but can't remember the brand (it wasn't Yamaha, the name "Pioneer" seems to ring a bell).

Anyway, those from Fix Powersports are way too expensive. Yamaha has the same thing for less:

Are the marginal wheels the same size as the bogey wheels or smaller?
Tks

They are much smaller

Thanks for the pic. I have a set of brackets that use the same size wheels as the bogeys, due to the bracket to wheel offset. They would have to be mounted at the cross bar support in front of the rubber bumper, using longer capscrews to retain the bracket and the cross bar. Not sure how this might work out.

Okay looking at your suspension again, I have another bogey where your marginal is located. My bracket would mount where you have a capscrew in front of your marginal. My rubber bumper is between that capscrew and your marginal. Not enough room on mine to mount the larger bogey between the rubber bumper and the most forward bogey.

When installing to set of marginal wheel kits on a 136" skid where do you mount the second set when the first set is at the curve? If someone has a picture showing the placement it would really help. I'm getting my new sled ready for the first ride and I really don't want to worry about loosing the hyfax. I've already installed the first set in the front and have the new hyfax on order from the dealer.

Thanks for reading.

With your's being a 136 I would just purchase regular sized wheels and install them in front of your rear wheels, like in this pic.

I'm going to try the Pioneer wheel mounts that have an offset axle, that way I can still use the Yamaha idlers and get the same effect as the Skidoo wheels. They also have a second mounting hole to take some stress off the rail.

So what will work for a 2007 RS Rage? Those Pioneer offsets only list the 2006 model Rage as compatible.

I am not sure what I need to do, either add scratchers or modifiy/add wheels, but the previous owner said the hyfax wore out in under 300 miles.

I installed Yami's mid wheel kit for my Attak and they bent. The mounting bent not the wheels. One side one year then the next season again one side. So I had to take them off.
The mounts weren't made as strong as they could have been. At least my rails didn't crack.

CaptCaper,

I noticed that your wife has a Vector, did you add any additional wheels to her sled? I also noticed some of the modifications you did to your sled. Do you think the mounting couldn't take the added stress because of that. (I'm trying to be sensitive.)

Thanks

My wifes sled is bone stock. Her Hyfax lasted as long as mine did since we ride together mostly.
I don't think any of the mods I did affected the wheel kit. The front kit has been on for years and is fine. The Mid wheel kit must of bent going over a rock or something like that. If you put one on you'll see how a big guy riding over a rock or over something else just right could stress the mounting setup. The wheels were fine it was the mounting block design. Maybe others have had it as well don't know. I took the mid wheel kit off.
I usually get about 2 k miles out of the hyfax. The front wore the worst but the kit in front has helped. Hope this info helps.

Thanks for the reply. Your explanation clears thing up. I'm planning on running with the marginal snow wheel kit on the front next to the rubber stop and going with the new slides by Dupont. If you can get 2,000 miles with your set-up I would sure like to be somewhere north of 6,000 miles to break even on the sliders.

Thanks Again!
