My new rear idlers i put on about 600 miles ago(3weeks or so) blew out turing my new track bearings and bogys into swiss cheee. Im starting to think i have myself a lemon. I just cant keep this thing running without problems.... All i can do now is buy 4 new ones to add the 4th wheel... This sled is gonna make me go broke but what am i suppost to do,? I gotta replace them...

Hey, it happens. It's either bad luck, karma, planets out of alignment, who knows. I have also been having the worst season ever. Apart from the weather (barely had enough snow), all I've been doing is towing and fixing sleds. Not my Yamaha mind you, it's been like a rock, towing all the Doos home. Out of 5 sleds, only 2 are currently running. Not that it matters since our trails have been closed for over a week and not likely to re-open. Even when we bought a 2005 GTX for my older son earlier this month, it turned into a disaster. Thought I had checked it out pretty good and it ran well. Wound up being a badly abused machine and the engine seized the first weekend. We figure it was raced or something. Alright, enough crying in my beer :drink:

Which wheels did you use? The newer 2010+ wheels from Yamaha have replaceable bearings and are cheaper than the previous non-replaceable type.

if i had new idlers go out, i'd be asking someone to replace them after 3 weeks - i dont take care of my wheels in sleds at all and i've only lost two over the years - one came off on the trail and the other one froze up inside the track - i'd make sure your next set have been properly greased before i install them.

My turn to cry........... After a "RARE" day trip I noticed my front outside wheel coming off. Yup, the nut had backed out.. Now mind you the sled has 8,000 miles on it without a wheel problem.. Well I decided to replace all 4 of my wheel bearings.. Today I had a chance to give it a test ride.. At the turn around point of the ride I checked the wheels.. Yup, one had worked loose.. :o| #$%&* So I snugged it up... My riding bud told me to put some loc-tight on the threads.. So that's my next step.. And one more gripe..... This winter sucked !!!!!!!!!!!!!!.. MM.

Some years are just costly. I've been luck this year, only lost one wheel and that because o me.(Forgot to put the nut back on the rear axle) The only thing that I had to replace was both track tensors. You should be able to get them replace by yamaha.

If ya have a yearly maint program, moving parts would have been changed out or greased. I have an rx and an apex with nearly ten grand a piece. NEVER had a wheel problem or a bearing problem. Maintain your equipment and it will take care of YOU! " My old man always said that" smart guy.

They were brand new wheels and pretty much after every ride i have had to tear it down to rebuild somthing. Im woundering if my 144" extension had somthing to do with it?

Something wrong somewhere.

12,200 km on my 06 Apex GT I just sold in the fall.

Original Idlers, original hyfax. Rear axle wheels replaced at 10,000.

2500 so far this year on the new style spoked wheels on my 2011 SE. No issues.

Maybe that "smokin hot girlfriend" of yours got too close to the sled and melted the grease out of the bearings.

Sounds about right! Maybe she just wants ya closer to home.

My wife rolled her new Vector LTX. Got a vibration that I think is the skid is out of wack so slightly. Has a sound and feel like my Attak when cornering sometimes. This will be a lemon for years blowin wheels, etc.unless the problem is solved. It will be hard to find being so slight. That' if it is the skid and not the tunnel or drive train.

On the rear wheels it's critical that you get everthing back in the right order with correct spacing or else. Ask me how I know after making 4th wheel kit one spacer was CH short. Did last for few hundred miles.

That's why I decided to spend a little more and get the actual 4th wheel kit from Yamaha just in case I screw something up cutting the original shaft. Added 2010 Apex wheels (black open spoked replaceable bearings) to replace the original outers, no problems.

Hang in there bud, that stuff happens. She's not a lemon I bet. Like Caper said, maybe something about your skid is ajar right now, not "in square" in contractor's parlance......

Is one side of your track tighter than the other? Is one of your anti ratchets/ drivers perhaps a bit off? One of your rails slightly bent?

Something like that can be aggravating but lead to that heavy track pulling a certain way/ giving more tension to one side and tear things up.

Best make sure you have everything in the correct order with the wheels and shafts in the correct spot. This could be a source of the vibration. Did it once myself and could feel it the first 100 feet. Turned around and put it back in the correct order problem solved!
