Marginal snow wheel kits?

I added the fix wheel kit (x2) to my nytro and they are still in excellent shape after over 7000 kms (the second owner still hasn't had to replace them yet).

It sure looks like you're getting your money's worth out of them. ;)!

Over 6000 miles on my (yamaha small wheel kit) greased at the end of the season and still perfect condition, wheel and bearing. Mine are installed at the front rail bend.

I had no idea you could get that many miles out of them.

Did you notice any top speed difference with them (+ or -).

Good to know!

I am picking my set up tomorrow, I only ordered one for now and will put it on the front. (still deciding on rear set and if they have the room to be mounted on a 121 skid?)

I take these wheels don't come with replacable bearings??

I origonally put them on to help reduce hi-fax wear at that point in the rail. With the limiter strap at full length for my setup, hi-fax wear was bad at the bend in the rails. Now if you start shortening the strap, this does make an easer track aproach to the rail, thus reducing wear. Can't say if i gained any speed but it did exactly what i needed it to do. My many years with Arctic Cats showed that it was easy way to help speed. I have seen 1-4mph increase on most Cats that i have owned over the years. Heck! I still have sets laying around for Cats.

This is what I have done to help with the slider wear. :bling

Looks good Dean ;)!

I just finished installing my marginal snow kit, it was a real easy install and should definitely help with the Hyfax wear in that area at the front bend!

I did notice Yamaha sends out little flat washers for the allen head bolt that attaches to the rail, I am curious why they would not use lock washers instead?

I looked at the thickness of their washer and the location and seen no reason not to use a lock, so that is what I did, I used a small lock washer that may be a couple thou thicker than their flat washer, which imo will cause no problems. (I also used thread locker(Loctite) on the bolts)

Still deciding if I should add the kit at the rear of my skid?
Pics of a kit installed on a 121 mono would be appreciated.

Thanks for all the help. ;)!

Thanks Irv
I had to buy more bolts and washers for the rear set of marginal wheels because I made the second set at work and could not get stainless Allan head bolts so if you look at my skid I didn't use the Allan heads at all so they all match .I always found that the front or curved part of the sliders wore out first long before the rear .Its to bad that we couldn't flip they around, probably would last 1000km more.So I guess what I am saying is that I think that you have probably stopped more of the wear with the front wheels installed.Oh yea I put them on the inside of the skid and I don't know if it makes any difference inside or out ,I only race my friend and I am running a prestudded which is not good for the Lake scugog drag races anyhow :flag: I also have the bigger billet wheels so the sliders hardly touch the track. I can post another pic of the rear wheel if you want but I used Rockerdans design.

OFT Racing has recently unveiled a new TRUE 5.25" (133.35mm) wheel. Get rid of that premature hyfax wear by using a wheel that is actually designed to keep the track away from the skid!

No more ugly Skud wheels!

Nice Wheels Moto
Do you use your wheels on the inside of the rails as well and can you use the marginal wheel kit or do you get spaces between wheels and the track now? What bearing goes in them?

I'm not sure I follow your questions completely, but here it goes...

These wheels were designed to mount in the OEM outer rail locations, and to replace the OEM wheels.

As far as the use of a low snow kit, it depends on the wheel diameter and mounting location of the LS kit. if the LS wheels hang the same distance below the hifax as the OFT wheels do there will be equal pressure on each wheel - if one hangs lower than the other, the lower one will carry a somewhat higher load.

We use a replaceable 6005 bearing that is 25mm (bore) x 12mm (wide)
