My wife went to the local library and recently renewed the registration for 2 of my sleds. I noticed that she did not come back with trail stickers (just the registration stickers). This latest cold snap and recent snow got me thinking that I should also get the trail stickers, so I went online to purchase them and was surprised to find that, because my previous registration expired June 30, 2013, I won't need them this year (See: MN DNR - Trail Sticker.

The only thing is that my registration stickers DO NOT indicate (anywhere on the sticker or the ID card/sticker) that they also serve as a MN trail sticker. So I am thinking of printing a copy of the info on the webpage linked above and carrying it with me in the event that I am stopped for having no trail sticker. What do you think? Overkill or prudent?

i think you are fine without it. They've been talkin about this new law for a while, I can't imagine any DNR enforcement officer NOT knowing about it.

Your probably right DF. I seem to be the last one to know about it.

yeah, they increased the registration fee, but eliminated the trail sticker. Everyone b***hed about registration going up, but didnt realize it wasnt that large of an increase once the trail sticker fee was factored in.

I'll happily pay the increased fee's if that money is going back into trails and maintenance!

Yep, trail is included when you pay the $78 3 year fee. You can get a registration with no trail for something like $55.

My question is this -

How much can us guys in MN trim the stickers down? Do they have to be full size, or can we trim them to be the same size as our registration numbers?

ya, they merged the stickers last season I believe. As I have them, and mine expire in 2015, so at least last season if not the one before.

I trim mine down too. As long as you don't trim off any important info off the sticker. Truth be told, if you have the registration in your bag, that matches the VIN/sticker, you are good. You just want the DNR to be able to see the color and date while passing.

Good luck!
