more track speed on a Vector

I am planning on doing it but not at this time. What is the stock gearing on them? Top speed on mine was about 85 last year.

stock gearing is 20/40 and it give about 83 mph wich should translate to 92-93 on speedo.

If youre willing to loose top end on hardpack, go 18/40 . Dont buy aftermarket Gear, i tryed some and not strong as Yamaha one when going this small. And keep Chain Tension always perfect.

Got the kit today and got the helix and spring changed. Found out why the vector was performing like crap, half the spring came off with the helix and the other stayed on the clutch. That was probably causing me problems. can't wait to try out the new setup this weekend.
what do you think of the set up??

Wasn't a real good powder day so can't give a comparison to where it really struggled. Engages around 4000 and peak is between 8300-8500 consistently. Still not quite how I like it. I am going to try to get a hold of a dayco belt this week and see what that does. After that probably throw some different gears in.

I usually unload at about 7000 ft and ride up to about 10,000. Maybe go a little higher than that but not for long.

I had Hartman build me a kt for a 210 lb rider and 7 to 10,000 ft. Gearing he recomends is 20-42. I am going to try a dayco belt first. The clutch seemed to help alot and a belt is cheaper than gears.

The dayco belt thing is bull ---- nothing works as well as the Yamaha belt -- I had nothing but grieve with them on my mod sleds, may be not as bad in the low powered Vector but sure don't stand up on Nos or turbo sleds.

I will agree with powder but my vector will not hold a yami belt it will shred with in 50 miles but with the ultilmax 3 it is fine and have not replaced one yet over a 1000 miles on it. But if you are not having belt problems with the Yamaha belt then dont change it will not give you what you are looking for and will probably not hold.

Are you hitting your rpms on the hard pack??

Wind your secondary to 6-3 and you will need to change gearing at that elevation!!!

Sea level stock 600 ski doo is running 18-40 gears

I have the spring in the number 6 hole on the helix. What will changing the position of the spring do?

This is how it was explained to me. The Secondary is nothing more than a torques sensing device. When you are on hard pack the secondary stays closed and keeps you in the correct spot not directly to overdrive. When a load is placed on the track it causes the secondary to wind open because A the wind is not tight enough or the spring is too weak. By winding it tighter say 6-3 = 90% it will take more force to open the secondary therefore keeping you in the lower gear and in the power.

Try it and see how it works for you. I actually have not done it my vector to see how it will work but my past sleds that is how I ran them.

I am actually going to change the Helix on the Nytro and wind the secondary.

did you make any headway??

Didn't change anything last weekend. I was thinking my jetting was off because I seemed to be getting a wide open bog, Pulled the carbs and I have 142s in there which seem about right for the elevation and temp. 7-10,000 ft and 10-30* F. I am running out of ideas besides gearing. I don't have the money for that right now either.

ACG,
At that elevation, I can't help you much other than tell you I have spent many hundred on belts to determine the Ultimax XS is the best belt I have used. The Yamaha belt is virtually indestructable, so it is my spare, but it slips alot on me. There are soooo many variables to clutching. I am at 1,000-3000', so my setup won't work for you. I have found a gear ratio of about 1.75 (23-40) gives me what I want (high track speed). This is the other direction the rest are telling you. So, be careful about this. If your rpms are at 8500, you don't need to change the primary if you don't want, but improvements can always be made. What might be an easy to help is an bolt on helix to raise/lower your rpm, the shockwave adjustable helix. It allows you to raise/lower your secondary angle which will lower/raise your rpms. And it only takes 2 minutes to adjust. I talked to many fellows that like this item, but they had Apexes. They said Outlaw Motorsports (somewhere in OR) knows the most about how to use it. It's on my wish list, but the snow has been bad this year with little mtn riding available. Hope this helps.

I have a clutch kit Hartman Inc. set up for me. Consistantly pulling 8300-8500 RPM. In any hill climb or deep snow the speedo might say 40mph, but more consistantly says below 40, in the 30s. That is holding it wide open. Never seems to gain any speed. On a long flat hardpack trail it pulls and pulls wide open until 90. I know not to expect this speed on the speedo when climbing or plowing through the deep stuff, but I would think you should pull more than 35 mph.

The key seems to be what your rpms are in the deep stuff. If you are at 8500, then you might have some bad slippage of the belt. If its a Yamaha belt, they slip easier than Ultimax belts. A tighter twist on the secondary might help (6-3?) The local dealer put his gear/primary weight setup on mine. He doesn't give it out. I can hold rpm in almost all conditions right now, but as I said, I'm at a lower elevation and not much climbing this year. I do like how my "boat anchor" 600 class powder machine can outperform my bud's 800 summit revs in boondocking, straightline accel ( they have some stiff gearing and top out quick), reliability (towed a couple this year), and 20% better gas mileage (always giving gas). It climbs ok, but doesn't compete with the summit 800. These multiangle helixes help a lot of guys get the rpm correct AFTER they have their primary set close.
