I come away from that Video seeing a new hybrid chassis that is possible a "refresh" of the procross chassis with some Yamaha design changes and can be built on the AC assembly line but has Yamaha fit n' finish incorporated. It might even be that they start using the single shot on both sleds. Sound to me that a Yamaha built/designed/HPDI two stroke 800 isn't in the cards from the "2 strokes, were still competitors" comment. Yamaha seems to use superchargers quite well on water craft so maybe we will see a 1049SC as the top engine instead of a stroker 1049 or revised Apex mill.
new predictions
Yamaha Venom/AC5000 - 998cc or less triple based off the 16' casting/YZX engine, great place to use the 16' rods
Yamaha Viper/AC7000 - same old 1049 mill, maybe a few tweaks for a few ponies
Sidewinder/AC9000 - bored/stroked 1049, 1049SC, 1049 Turbo (really don't see a revised 4 cylinder)

I never believe any of the "insider" rumors I read on here before new product release time. With that being said, however, I don't doubt Journeyman at all. He's been on here for a long time from back in the old TY days like I have been. He's never been anything but a great TY contributor and isn't one to cause drama. If he says he knows, then I believe he knows.
The video above made me feel better about the whole Yamaha situation. The viper never grew on me because I still view it as a cat with a Yamaha motor stuffed into it. Future sleds though will likely be developed & engineered jointly from the ground up! That could make for some exciting products with a fit/finish and reliability more inline with a traditional Yamaha product.
Thanks for the kind words!! Just a fyi, one of the reasons I know so many people in the biz is from many years ago when a friend raced in the pro drag circuit when ice drags were still a big thing. I did pit work/wrenching and traveled every weekend with him. I met, drank, ate....partied with several people that were tied with the different factories. I'm in my 50's now so I've been around awhile. When I do go to the new model shows it seems like I always run into people I know. Oh I do also know one of the Cat racers and employees. He married one of my HS buddy's daughter. My in the know guy is none of the above.

At some point in time I hope we get a better state of the Union address from CR. The four circles in the sand must mean a V4 motor

If in the 2 stroke world "we're still competitors", than I will just assume that means Yamaha is coming out with a new 2 stroke sled. Better scrounge up a deposit for a new one.

That was my impression as well. But will we only see it dressed as a cat?If in the 2 stroke world "we're still competitors", than I will just assume that means Yamaha is coming out with a new 2 stroke sled. Better scrounge up a deposit for a new one.

They do still make 2-stroke sleds, at least the Viking 540. It even got an update last year, i think it has a 1.75" track.

View attachment 115490 Maybe it's time for Yamaha to build a sled based on their patent a few years ago.
I think you may see this, but on a snow bike. I've heard that the bikes are horrible on trail, this may fix that.

Yeah - I remember that. Wonder if power steering plays a part in that design?View attachment 115490 Maybe it's time for Yamaha to build a sled based on their patent a few years ago.

Holy Smokes!!! I believe I just cracked the code/hint that Chris gave us by showing that picture! Looking closely at that pic, I thought that it might be tracks created by some animal, but what? At first I thought Cat, but that is nothing new...then I remember back last year when I posted a thread on Yamaha trademarking the name "Sidewinder" here:http://www.ty4stroke.com/threads/2016-yamaha-sidewinder.131697/At some point in time I hope we get a better state of the Union address from CR. The four circles in the sand must mean a V4 motor
Then I thought, is that a pic of Sidewinder tracks? Upon googling images of Sidewinder tracks, sure enough, I came across the very same image that Chris posted on his blog on this webpage (bottom right corner)http://www.16streets.com/MacLaren/Travel and Surfing/29PalmsJune2012/Page03/Page03.html. Reading the blurb on the picture, it mentions a Sidewinder leaving these tracks.
Looks like we will have a new sled in the lineup after all...the 2017 Yamaha Sidewinder!

(if a tree falls in the forest) How does this statement play in the equation?
March 1 is a late release date. Other years its been around Feb. 17. I think this is a clue in its self.

From Wikipedia -"If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" is a philosophical thought experiment that raises questions regarding observation and knowledge of reality.

The dissimilarity between sensation and reality[edit]
Main article: Qualia
What is the difference between what something is, and how it appears? — e.g., "sound is the variation of pressure that propagates through matter as a wave"
Perhaps the most important topic the riddle offers is the division between perception of an object and how an object really is. If a tree exists outside of perception then there is no way for us to know that the tree exists. So then, what do we mean by 'existence', what is the difference between perception and reality? Also, people may also say, if the tree exists outside of perception (as common sense would dictate), then it will produce sound waves. However, these sound waves will not actually sound like anything. Sound as it is mechanically understood will occur, but sound as it is understood by sensation will not occur. So then, how is it known that 'sound as it is mechanically understood' will occur if that sound is not perceived?
This riddle illustrates John Locke's famous distinction between primary and secondary qualities. This distinction outlines which qualities are axiomatically imbibed in an object, and which qualities are ascribed to the object. That is, a red thing is not really red (that is, "red" is a secondary quality), a sweet thing is not really sweet, a sound does not actually sound like anything, but a round object is round.
I think all this means its going to be a 2-stroke!! LOL
