I have a 2003 RX-1 and the seat ripped near the back on the side (and not on a seam). Now i was lucky enough to find a brand new seat cover for only $50 CDN. The dilema is this - should i pull off the old cover and put the new one on or just put the new one right ontop of the old ripped one? Pros/Cons of doing either?
thx
thx

You'll have a rot problem if you put the new one over the old one.
Personally, I wouldn't even pay $50 for a seat cover. Get $5 worth of vinyl at a vinyl store and spend 15 minutes to replace the damaged panel.

I don't know that you would be able to stretch one cover over the other.
I agree with first trying to fix it. You can get some really good vinyl repair kits from someplace like Fleet Farm for relatively little money.
And if that doesn't work to your liking, then go get the new cover. What have you got to lose?

REPLACE cover, and while you are at it, install some more foam. Try a search, there are many guys that have done this, pretty easy install. The cover has plenty of room to stretch.

Thanks all. Indy i think i agree with you, why do it half assed when for ONLY $50 you can get an entirely new one..... I bought the cover and will rip off the old one....Again, thanks for all the comments.

I agree, not everybody has the skills or time to learn the skills. When you score yourself a seatcover for $50, go ahead and reap the benefits. The last thing I would want to look at for the rest of my RX-1's days is a botched-up seat repair job.

I need a seat cover for mine too. I only have like 1500 miles on it and the seat cover ripped about 3 inches long on one side and about 1/2 inch on the other right on the back where it wrinckles when you sit on it. If I cant find a seat cover at a reasonable price for an 05 in black im gunna try to repair it. If I cant do that I will probly take it to a shop and get it recovered....

My 04's seat ripped because it was cut by the, for lack of a better word, "fame" under the cover. It looked like the "fame" had cut through it. It was ripped/cut after about two trips out. I took it back to the dealer for a repair and they replaced it under warranty. If the rip is right on the tail of the seat, you may want to take it back to the dealer.
