- 2007 Apex RTX
2009 Nytro XTX
I just traded my 2002 Viper for my first 4-stroke... a 2007 Apex RTX. I am going to start going through it to make sure that everything is ready once the snow flies. It has 5000 miles on it, an M-20 Airwave suspension, 50 hp Boondocker nitrous kit, Fix ram air kit and a modified Bender exhaust off of an RX-1. I am planning on switching the exhaust back to stock because the Bender is a little loud for my taste. It is in need of a new track, so I will be pulling the suspension and drive shaft and am planning on stretching the M-20 to 136" or 144" with a Cobra track. Aside from checking the obvious things like the exhaust gaskets, driveline bearings and steering bushings, is there anything else I should be paying attention to while I have it apart? As this is my first 4-stroke I would like to take care of any known issues now so I can hopefully have a wrench-free winter! Any advice is greatly appreciated.

You definitely hit the big ones, unfortunately if none of the issues you mentioned have been looked at to this point, with that mileage, you will definitely have to address each of them and hope that the Y-pipes are still good.
Regardless with average to above average wrenching ability (which I don't have) those problems are quite manageable.
You have a great sled with even better mods- depending on your riding style, you may have just purchased a near perfect sled- congrats.
And welcome to TY4stroke..

your gonna love this sled... especially with a M20... the stock suspension is a wee bit less to be desired... check everyhting in chain case over... check front control arm bushings when your in there... depending on how last owner took care of it.... (50 shot of nos...hehe) this sled should last thousands more... i have 10500 on my RTX, EVERYTHING except motor has been rebuilt. but i love this sled... only one i love more is the 40th...

Check the oil tank for leaks. Right side of the side and all the rivets for moving ones.
Your really not there yet, but the drive axles are said to break around 7500 miles. Just a thought , if you are doing a track

Then I would add a set of no slip drivers to with the new axle. And let's see a pic.

Thanks for all the replies! I am happy to see that you 4 stroke guys are as helpful as the guys on the 2 stroke forum were! For the no slip drivers, which size and brand should I be looking for?

Wahl drivers will be just fine on your sled. About $160 from ulmers and if I'm remember right 9 tooth drivers.
I have a set of 9t wahl drivers used one season.Pm me if interested.

I own 2 - 07 RTXs both stock and they rock, quickest apex corner to corner.
Radiator mounts are prone to breaking also.

I think for the most part everyone has said what needs to looked at so we can all walk ya threw it plus the forms have a lot to offer on "HOW TO".
I have the same sled and it was my first 4-stroke also and it is no doubt the best move I ever made in the sport as well it has been the best sled I have owned. (this is # 15) I have spent time working on the rear skid to get it ride well and clutched it to my riding style and it frankly is just one nice sled! I can go on and on on the good stuff this sled offers.....

pm crewcheif on this site for copper exhaust donuts, cheaper than stock and better quality.
