New track Chatter on SRX

My 2017 SW LTX DX was like this whit ZERO milles!

The track he have on his sled right now have no "silent drive" inside
which means that the extrovert part of the track go deeper against the drivers....
Wow and you still took it from dealership?

I went back.... believe me!
At that time, there were no spare parts or even part list For almost all winter....

Answer from Yamaha was "bad track storage at AC facilities or camoplast" and ride it ! Me and the TECH already know that the left driver was a problem. They have changed 2500$ worth of parts and labor under warranty at 5 oookm after first season!

From watching that second video in the beginning..I’d say it’s the drivers hitting on the windows clips, or the widows clips hitting the tip top of the sliders.

Tightened up my track quite a bit before last trip cuz it was ratcheting bad after I tuned it...and with my track tight now, I have a LIL chattering sound at low speed similar to that. I checked my belt right away cuz thought it might have been chunked..but belt was fine. I put between 200-300 miles on it and it ran superb and no more ratcheting at all at 270 HP. I think the tighter you run it..the more you hear that until it wears in. Cuz before I tightened my track this time, I didn’t have any chatter, and that’s all I did to mine.

Yea but there’s too many pops for only moving 5 inches

I can put my hands on the chain case on both sides and not feel any clicks or vibration. But when I put my hand on the drive shaft, I can feel the vibration from the clicks distinctively

Well before I would tick off my buddies with a broke down sled on a trip the very least I would be doing is opening up that chaincase and dropping the driveshaft. All it costs is the chain case oil and time. I will admit many of these guys are convinced its just the drivers and I agree I have heard a clicking and squeaking of rubber but nothing like yours sounds like. I will admit I am wrong and buy you a beer if we ever meet if so. Its a one all nighter job. Second time is way easier in all aspects.

I had this same issue after installing a studded cobra track mind you it wasn’t this loud. But I was stock and ran my track on the loose side. My first thought was chaincase and that I may have put something together wrong but I hadn’t noticed the noise until 50 miles into my trip so I kept running it. You could only hear it when coming to a stop or just taking off. 800 miles later it’s still fine but I still notice this noise somewhat when going very slow.

I still vote picks hitting exchanger or something. I would have to tip it up and look to believe otherwise. as someone said, click noise was random, like a pick pattern, not uniform like clips. easy enough to look and it hasn't been said it was checked.

4strokes - I did a thorough inspection, you could drive a truck between the studs and exchanger.

Heading out here in an hour or so. Will update!

To the barrrrr!!!

Thanks guys.

While it does seem like chaincase due to its fast nature of sound vs how slow track is spinning, Any chaincase noise is not that tinny sounding or loud...reason is, there is OIL in there! While the chaincase will make a noise, its never that loud or tinny if oil is there. I assume he poured chain lube into case.

Its the clips hitting driver, and will wear in IMO.

Dan

Well if it is the clips making that much noise, That makes the clutch rattle sound good ...lol
I wouldn’t be running that track.

Thanks for checking, it would have bugged me all weekend.... Run it extra hard, it will learn.. I ran extros on my nytro, until they spun on the shaft and blew my backcountry out behind me in the middle of a lake with 12" of water on top of the ice. I am with cannondale, let it ratchet. which it wont if its tight. now I'm off to beat my own machines, I doubt my wife would even notice that noise.

Someone's looking for a ride home already hope it isn't you brent?

I've done a few tracks swaps and driver swaps on these sleds (and the Cat). If your drivers are on the numbers as per the service manual (below), both drivers will be very close to the outside edge of the windows. Cat sells a new axle with 10T 2.52 installed, and it does not line up very well with the Yamaha spec. My guess is that you have some studs close to the windows that are pushing the track (it mushrooms out a bit when you torque it) against the extrovert. this and/or the drivers are close enough to the edge of the window that the extrovert is actually hitting the track clip.
