Apex Riders:
Here at WRP in Utah we are considering making a new seat for the Yamaha Apex chassis. We already have a seat for the Apex Mountain sleds. http://www..com/categories/listProducts.php?category=56
But have had many requests for a non mountain seat. Most of your requests have been for just a replacement seat foam and cover since you can not buy them from Yamaha separate and the entire seat is over $600.00. At this point we are thinking of just doing a replica of the Yamaha seat using our popular comfort foam. Please tell me what Apex riders would desire in a seat. Any input is appreciated.
Thanks

I'd love to do the foam swap out option if it became available, but I'd take a seat with firm foam if the price didn't get too out of reach.
I could then sell my factory seat to offset the cost of an entire aftermarket seat assembly.
If there is enough interest what would be the lead time on getting one?

Thanks for the input. Our seat will most likely not come with the pan. The cost of tooling up for a seat pan is virtually irrecoverable. So you will have to mount it on your OEM seat pan. The cost should be around $329--$370 not sure yet.
Thanks

Yes it is for real. I have an Apex sled here and as soon as my techs finish up the new Back country boondocker seat for the PRO RMK they will start on the Apex. I hope to gain enough info on the forums to build a seat that will satisfy most Apex owners.
Oh and the seat should be available by mid October of this season.
Thanks for the quick replies.

What seat do you have to start with? There are two different foams from yamaha if the stripe on the seat is in the middle it is the softer one if its on the bottom its the firmer one.
I cant stand the soft one and I'm about 6' 220lbs, I sink in way to much and cant stand very easily
I swapped for the firmer seat found on the MTX, and RTX and its perfect! I dont sink in to far, can stand easily, and not hard or harsh on the tush.
For the cover I would like a grip top surface vs a slick and slide like factory.
For the seat foam if its softer then it needs to be higher by probably 2", if its firmer I wouldn't mind another 1" myself with a longer cover to match.
Lastly the back pocket with fasteners that dont break, the twist locks ones from yam have broke on all of my seats.
Thanks for thinking of the apexs!

Also skinz sells seat covers for $225 last I checked so keep that in mind, I know your adding foam but it should be special or lighterweight then factory to off set the price difference:

This is some very helpful info that i was unaware of on the foam densities. Thanks.
Our seat will be more firm than stock so that you do not sink in as much and maybe an option for a Plus 1" taller. The cover will have our standard no slip top and carbon fiber side panels with a black on black accent band constructed out of durable gemni material.
This is the direction we are thinking of heading with the seat unless i receive many riders requesting otherwise.

AS stated above.. i have a 07RTX and an 08 40th... and by far i prefer the firmer RTX seat... but need to be higher. there are a few posts on here where guys took off skin and added a peice of foam to add height. Alittle taller seat and a set of risers makes these apex's a different beast(ergonomicly speaking that is)....
And for ideas... have foam height options, maybe 1" or 2". this seems to be the biggest seat mod guys are doing.

So be clear to specify when you say yours will be firmer then the stock seat as to which stock seat it will be firmer then. Firmer then the stock soft one or firmer then the stock firm one.
Seat sounds nice!

The seat i have here is the soft seat. Our seat in density will be similar to the more firm Yami seat. But it will be the combination of density and ILD (Indentation Load Deflection) that makes our foam more comfortable that most OEM seats. Most of our seats for the Polaris models sell good based on the comfort of the seat and nothing else.
Thanks for your help.

A few questions:
What kind of riding do you guys do? Trail, Mtn etc
Is weight a huge concern?
Yes we are considering height options but they are not yet determined.

I have a 2011 apex se and would love to get a seat that is just a bit firmer and 1.5 to 2 inches taller. everyone i know would prefer a taller seat. I trail ride4500 to 6000 miles a year in vermont and canada and would find the taller seat a relief for the knees and make the transition to standing much easier

I agree, I bet this goes the same for the standard Apex seat. I know you carry a Apex seat but it needs to fit the standard mold and trim.
