I picked up an 08 Yamaha RS GT 40th Anniversary Vector yesterday and I couldn't be happier!

I purchased it from Ragdoll on this site.
It only has 3400 km's and is in mint shape.

I know I drove many nuts with all my questions on freedomsledder, so just be warned, I plan to continue here

In all seriousness, I am looking forward to reading threads on this site and learning as much as I can about this sled.
I have only driven one (09 Apex) for a short period of time(10 mins) so you might as well say I am a complete newbie to these Yamaha sleds.

For tech questions, info etc, is this the proper section to be or is there a lot more info about these sleds in other sections.

Thanks :letsnow:

Welcome. Post here for your specific sled questions.
You'll get better response.

Thanks guy's, looking forward to learning as much as I can about my new sled, just wish winter was just starting instead of ending!@#%&*

Welcome to the best sledding site on the net! There is alot of information here. Using the search option at the top of the page will assist you in finding the answer to just about any question you may have. Whatever help you need, someone here has done it, built it, rode it, wrecked it, rebuilt it, modded it better, then to do it again. lol

Well you must feel welcome by now!! So whats your 1 st question?? :4STroke:

Ok, here's a few.

1st of all, this sled came with stock ski's but upgraded Woody's dooleys were added, will this eliminate the darting issues and will it corner like it is on rails? What are the better/best aftermarket ski's for the Vector (95% trail riding)

2nd, bogey wheel delamination, will it happen and if so, at approx how many miles?
Also what is the best option at repairing them,,,,, go after market? If so, which aftermarket company and why?

3rd, low snow wheel kit, where do they go on the skid, front or rear?
Are they worth the money, meaning do they work?

4th, I weigh approx 190-200 lbs, throw on some gear/helmet etc and I am probably 210ish? Where should my centre shock be adjusted too approx?

5th, Oil/filter change is coming this wknd, should I run the full synthetic Yamalube and a Yammy filter or will Mobil-1 5W-30 syn work just as well?
I plan on using Mobil-1 75-90 syn gear oil for my chain case as I have for years in all my sleds with no ill effects but in your opinions, is there a reason I shouldn't?
That's all for now, but there will be more, trust me!

Search the forums for shimming the stock skis and add a 13mm sway bar from Pioneer Performance you wont beleive the difference a after market ski will bite more and with all the weight on the nose of the sled now you will need to muscle it to turn the bars As for oil change use only the oil designed for the sled the Automotive oils are missing some additives that may shorten the life of your starter clutch from what I understand from reading on the site dont go throwing money on mods and fixes search the site over the off season there are a lot of free solutions available here and dont be afraid to ask. Hossman out

Thanks Hoss, I was curious on the shimming and especially the 13mm swaybar, is it hard to change out?
Not sure how oil shortens the life of the starter clutch and I am not sure what you mean by "starter clutch"?

I picked up some Yamalube 0W-30 semi syn and 2 filters today at lunch and it came to almost a $95 bucks, yawsa! ;):D
I found out a short while ago that Hi-Flo makes a filter for these machines and there for half the price, definitely will be using them again when the time comes! (used on my Grizzly regularily with no issues)

As far as oil goes, I think I will do some research but more than likely I will run Mobil-1 motorcycle (M1) oil?
Yhe Yamaha full synthetic (gold bottle) is almost $22 bucks a litre!

I found out some good info about setting my suspension up, seems the front skid shock has 3 different settings (a clip) under the collar? I was able to look at a chart and according to it I can leave it at the stock setting(#1) and crank my spring up near the max setting or change the clip to the number 2 setting and crank my spring to almost the lowest setting?
The guy said with my weight, I am right on the fence whether I should change it or not?
I also found out the tunnel adjustment knob for harder or softer shock settings will crank 2 full turns, not just one and that the label that states hard/soft is just that, it is to show you which way to go for softer/harder, nothing more? (this is from a well respected, been in the business for years and years type dealer who knows his stuff)

Welcome to the Yamaha lovers forum! Nice sled! My next sled is to be a Vector 136 or a Apex 128-136. Have fun! The guys on this web site are top notch!!! :4STroke:
