Well, it's been a week since we left for Copper Harbor Michigan from Illinois to attempt to ride these expensive little toys. My back is still stiff and I've yet to pull my skid to look for damage. I thought I might share with you some kind words of advice. I think we all agree that thus far the season in the upper Midwest is NOT looking good. Therefore we are relying on those select areas that have snow to offer a bit of relief. When calling up to places like the M______r in Copper Harbor DO NOT accept the following phrases as confirmation that the conditions are acceptable.
1) They're out grooming
2) They're riding
3) There are a lot of snowmobilers up here
4) Conditions were better, but they are riding
5) We're expecting more snow on ______ (when you arrive, fill in dates).
The funny thing about last weekend was that the trails sucked yet we overheard the girl on the phone describing the conditions with the same old cliché's as listed above.
Last bit of advice; wear a mansierre.....them are some bumpy trails.

I do not recommend riding in the U.P. over the Holidays. Everybody and thier brother is there and the groomers cannot keep up with the trails. I did it a few years back and never will go there again over the Holidays. The trails where absolutely terrible and the groomers could not keep up with the traffic. Not thier fault, way to many sleds! Just my 2 cents.

Snodes, sorry to hear about your trip. I know what you mean though. It's to the point where if you get a good report over the phone, chances are good that you were talking to a resort or inn owner that's hurting for business.
