When I run my Phazer I notice the primary clutch rattles quite a lot. The bolts on the weights have some side to side movement. It does matter how much you tighten them, they have a shoulder that the nut comes up to and your done. You can slide the bolts back a forth within its bore. When you run the machine the bolts rattle. I removed the nut and placed a small rubber O ring on the threaded end of the bolt and tightened the nut back down and now the bolt is snug with no movement. This doesn't effect the roller movement and they still move freely. I did all thee bolts and put the O rings in the same place so clutch balance won't be an issue. Noise from the clutch is reduce quite a bit.

On my Nytro I bought very small springs and cut them down to a coil and a half and forced them between weight and case (on the bolt, bolt throught weight then spring then through case and nut put on). Took about 90% of the noise out and lasted for about 1500 miles.

I don't know why there is the space (maybe thermal expansion and contraction?) but I'd assume it's there for a reason.
If it wasn't necessary I'm guessing they would have just machine the parts to fit tighter...

That's an old trick from Nytro owners to use Teflon washers or O-rings.. it softens it up a bit..

Yes lots of guys have done it. On a Phazer there are no set screws for the rollers or weights. On a Nytro they are there for the rollers and not for the weights on the SRX the roller and weight pins had setscrews to lock them. Yamaha cut costs here and result is clutch rattle but doesnt hurt performance.
