Due to lack of snow and abundance of rain, I am going to pull the plug again. I wouldn't run my 10 year old sled much less my brand new one in the conditions we have now. Let's hope for better luck next year.
Ok, here’s the official lodging for the Northern Minnesota TY Ride 2013, January 19th.
We will muster from the Chisholm Inn & Suites (same place as two years ago). I have a block of (10) rooms booked for TotallyYamaha through January 4th. After that the rooms will be reassigned to general inventory. The trail goes right through the front lot of the hotel, it is easy to find, and there is lots of parking. Rooms for us start @ $85/night + tax. Be sure to mention you're with TotallyYamaha.
This is the one weekend this hotel isn’t completely booked up with hockey tournaments. For those of you looking for alternative lodging locally:

Hibbing Park Hotel & Suites, 1402 East Howard Street & Hwy. 169, Hibbing MN. 55746 1800-262-3481. It is only about 8 miles by trailer from Chisholm, and is possible to ride trails from the hotel to Chisholm.
Holiday Inn Express & Suites, 8570 Rock Ridge Drive, Mountain Iron MN. 55768 1800-315-2605 holidayinn.com ~ 15 miles from Chisholm by trailer & ditches are rideable as well.
Bimbo’s Sunset Beach Motel 218-254-2576 This is a Ma & Pop type place. Simple rooms, no pool or hot tub, but local pub adjacent to rooms. ~ 15 miles by trail to Chisholm.

Any of the above lodging options are fairly close by both trail and by road. Bimbo’s will be the most economical. Mention you are with TotallyYamaha and that Dan sent you. Rooms ~ 55/night.

I will decide a route when we get closer and I know a head count and trail conditions. I will try to accommodate everyone as best I can. The two rides we have held in the past have always been fun. If people are interested in riding on Friday, I’ll be willing to take a day/half days’ vacation to host a ride on Friday as well.

Last year we had to pull the plug due to lack of snow. If the unthinkable happens and we get two years in a row of lousy conditions, there is the option of riding ATV’s in the area. There are a fair amount of ATV trails and forest roads where it is legal to ride ATV’s as well. Half the fun of these rides is the camaraderie and the people you meet anyhow. Keep the ATV’s in mind as an optional plan B.

All we need now is to THINK SNOW! If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me. Please leave a message if I don’t answer, I will get back to you. Dan : 218-969-5893
Looking forward to seeing everyone again and meeting some new faces as well.

So far, no interest on the viper. There's a good chance I'll hang onto it as a spare anyhow.
As far as the new sled... I'll just have to surprise everyone.

Guys I am interested but can not commit. My daughter is having twins should be able to be gone by this date though.. We're is the lodging, city or area? What trails to be ridden?

Yamadoo

Virginia, mn this year or Chisholm again? Good riding in both places!

Grizzly1: my guess is a 1200 Doo Renegade for your new sled.

Yamadoo: hope to see you again, it's been a couple of years. Definitely hope you can make it!

Regards,

Mike

I might actually be able to make it this year. As of right now, no basketball that weekend. Be nice to actually get on a ride and put some faces with the names.

It dont matter to me... I dont live in MN and not sure in a normal year what would be the better weekend.

Whatever I ride, it will be a Yamaha! Just not sure the new sled is in the budget this year. Going in for shoulder surgery (Again!) on monday. At least it's the other shoulder this time.
We'll plan on the weekend of Jan. 19th. Not sure I remember what a "normal" snow year is like around here, but usually that 3rd week of Feb. things are pretty thin snow cover wise.
I was actually thinking of lodging right behind Bimbo's Octagon. They're just small cabin rooms, but last year when I checked they were around $50/night vs. $120+ at either Virginia or Chisholm. Plus, I know the cabins won't be sold out due to a hockey tournament.
We'll shoot for the weekend of January 19th. As far as where we ride, we'll decide that when we see the size of the group. I consider it all pretty much the same area.

I'm in!! There is room for few at my cabin (about a block from Bimbo's) as well. I only charge $100/night (especially for Mexican pool boys).

Both Bieniek and I are in. We'll probably just ride up from Island Lake, so if anyone else wants to make the journey with us from Duluth let us know!

Let's hope for snow, and lots of it!

DeepFRZ and Super sled I can leave from Island lake no problem truck/trailer or Sled what ever time allows for. If you have not been there lately the Island lake Inn is remodeled and much nicer now. My wife even likes it now. The food is even better. I can not committ as my daughter is having twins and I think both times will be OK but a lot can happen out of my control.

They did a great job with the renovation! It seems like they've raised their prices in order to cover the costs though. Our sleds are on Schultz Lake, which is less than a 5 minute ride from either entrance to Island Lake. From what I've heard, the local snowmobile clubs successfully connected the HW53 trail to the local trails in Hibbing.

Deepfrz are you kidding me I am on Schultz lake as well ... Cabin is any way I am in the A frame on the west southern corner
Yamadoo

We're on the northern side of the lake. We tore down our A-Frame 3 years ago and built a log cabin. What a small world!
