Was wondering if i'm not getting full shift out on the secondary clutch. Sled is otherwise running excellent and just sync'd my carbs yesterday and man what a difference on idle and acceleration and also no more arching coils. So my clutches are all stock and I put on a new belt so was hoping someone could tell me what might be wrong. From a dead start Its about 9000 rpms and goes up to around 9500 rpms max and it should be around 10,300 rpms. Thanks.

Secondary does not control rpms, primary does. Sounds like you have too much tip weight.

Does the belt ride level with the top of the secondary? New belt could be longer and need to be adjusted! Did you have the secondary apart and put the spring back with the same preload? How did it run (rpms) before you syncd the carbs?

there clutched to heavy from factory see what front spring is in primary clutch let us know and we can steer you in right direction

It was doing this before I sync'd the carbs and before I put on the new belt. New belt sits just above secondary. I haven't had the clutches apart and I don't think the primary would have to much tip weight because it has stock weights in it and have not been touched. Also the clutch springs have never been changed since new and has alittle over 4000 miles know so maybe time for a new primary spring? Would a worn primary spring cause this?

I had the same issue last year. My primary was gunked up with belt dust. Pulled it apart and cleaned everything up and problem solved.

My primary is dirty, about an inch at the top is not making contact. So should I pull it and put in dishwasher, or use a scratch pad? How did you clean yours mighty?

From what I remember, the weights were not fully extending and I sprayed cleaning solvent like carb cleaner into the bushings till the solvent coming out wasn't discolored any more. Operating them by hand I really didn't notice a difference but when I took the sled for a ride I sure did.

Getting old just plain sucks. The sheave was not able to fully close and I don't remember exactly what I did. I do know that I did not pull the clutch off. That would have been the better route to go but I couldn't remember (old age again) what I did with my puller

Well cleaned the primary clutch in a good shape and sprayed dry lube on the rollers so they spin freely. Everything looked good and tight so put it back on the sled and took off the secondary clutch. Noticed 2 out of 3 buttons are missing. I will be replacing these tomorrow, but what do these buttons do and what kind of performance problems would it cause? Thanks.

Hey Brutus... I'm having a similiar issue on my RX1 since getting her out for the year. On my sled, it only hits 8000rpm and generally feels low on power getting there. Only thing I've done for the year is add 96 megabites and run some Seafoam thru the tank.

Does yours also have the low power complaint or still snappy getting to 9000rpm? I don't have a clutch puller tool anymore so hoping I don't have to get into the primary clutch.

red smoke; Mine felt the exact same way as yours. I cleaned and synced the carbs, checked for anything dragging in the drive system and no improvment. I finally cleaned the primary. I actually bought the sled like this. Riding it I couldn't believe what a slug it was. I was questioning selling my apex for this. But once I cleaned the primary it rocked. It will actually run with my old apex now. If anyone wonders why I moved back to a Warrior it was because of price. I picked up the Warrior for a song and had over $5K in my pocket leftover after selling the apex. And this was after putting an apex seat on. Strip the plastic off both sleds and you'll see they really are the same chassis except for the steering colume moved about 2 inches. Yes the suspentions are improved on the new stuff and FI is nice, but for how much I ride these days it was the perfect choice.

And for crist sake, do sleddogs airbox mod and jet it to match. You will not believe the improvement.

Red Smoke... Mine does still feel snappy until 9000 rpm and is not low on power getting there, just missing some R's. I will be putting mine back together tonight and riding tomorrow! Did you clean your carbs this year and are you still running old gas? You may have a fuel related issue or your coils could be arching which will cause bad performance. If it seems to run, idle fine and spark plugs have good color then you may need to go through the clutches. If you don't have a clutch puller then atleast try blowing out the belt dust with compressed air and sparying dry lube on the rollers to get them spinning freely. Try that and see what happens and also make sure you are not missing any buttons/shoes on the secondary clutch or over looking the obvious like your air box not being on tight around the carbs etc.
