Having an issue with my ‘09 RTX SE. Started it up yesterday no issues. Went for about 30 miles and shut it down for a break and when I went to restart it I had nothing. No power to the display and no fuel pump. Poked around, checked all fuses and connectors and everything was good. After about 15-20 min I turned the key and it fired up.

I do have a temp gauge on it and every time I turned the key to on the temp gauge would go from time to temp like it normally does when running.

Rode back towards home and stopped where we knew if it didn’t start we could pick it up. Came out after lunch and same issue. No power at all. Disconnected key switch and it didn’t look bad. I’m going to clean it anyways but noting looked corroded. Again after 20-30 min of poking around it fired up after telling the sled I would burn it down in the parking lot.

At idle the sled sounds like it’s running rough almost like it’s getting grounded out. Flip the flipper and it’s fine. When running it’s great. Just went out and did a load test on the battery and it’s 12.5v and under load it’s down to 10-11 (weak) but not bad. Was hoping it was a battery issue. All relays are the old black ones. Going to start there and replace with newer style. Any other thoughts or anyone have this issue before? I don’t think it would affect it but I also have the error code 81 for grip warmers.

Sounds like the relay to me. Get the solid state red one for sure.

Was there a wire rub issue somewhere behind primary clutch, rubbing on the frame casting?

I haven’t found a wire rub issue yet. It has aftermarket grip warmers so I’m thinking I know there’s an issue there, may be I’ll find another wire rub with it. Just looking for any advice so when I can get back to the sled I can go to specific spots and try to narrow the issue down quickly.

Wow.......hidden gem right there. I’m hoping for that easier find but I think that’s wishful thinking. Thanks for the pic.

Hoping the rubbing wire is my issue. Otherwise starter.

Dropped mine off at Excells tonight. Changed some relays, cleaned key switch connection and looked around for some bad wires but couldn’t find any. As soon as I dropped it off the guys came out and pulled on a couple wire harnesses and they think they have it narrowed down in side some wire bundles. Oh well. Riding a skidoo for tomorrow.

I had to replace starter, no sign of rub issue near primary. Replaced battery and starter relay as well. No issues now.

Mine ended up being the battery causing all the issues. I even load tested it and it was ok but apparently not. Glad that’s all it was.

Good to hear DF, glad ur up n' runnin again.

Headin to Maine this weekend for 4 days..hope all this rain hasn't damaged things too much, or may just have to drink beer all weekend at camp.....

75 F yesterday in York, Maine : ( crazy hot! Need to almost hit the county to find snow that survived but cold and 2" of snow tonight, go figure... Hope you find a pocket of snow or many beers! Enjoy.

Think all I’m going to find is work and beers on the weekend. Rode the sled twice and seasons over. Got 130 miles in it. Got more in my buddies skidoo 550F he sold 2 hours after we came back from riding. 60mph tops sucks when going 7 miles over a reservoir.

loose battery connection, should throw code 81 if that's the case. relay/moisture could also cause such issue
