Oil change sidewinder ltx le

Just did my 500 mile oil change and once its all drained you add 3 quarts to the oil tank and then start it up. I let it idle until warm and then turned it off. Once it cooled down I had to add another 1/2 quart to get it to the top off fill line.
Thanks, shall do the same and not overfill!
Really makes me wonder what he was reading when I was told 4.2 quarts???
And why they do not offer the oil change kit??

Oh well again this site has the most current and relevant info!
Thanks a bunch guys.

4 quarts, only 2 gasgets come with the kit 1 for drain plug on oil tank and 1 for engine drain bolt, if your thinking the third gasket it's already on the oil filter, just like an automotive style filter.

Check out the accessories catalog. Says, Oil Capacity, oil and filter- 4.85 US Qt, Viper and Sidewinder. Another screw up?

How long do you wait to check your oil level. It seems if you wait overnight the level rises. I had my dealer change the oil and after sitting overnight the level rose. see photo

I think it says check when hot, so that would mean you don't need to wait overnight, you check it a few minutes after shutting down. And if it goes up a little bit overnight no worries.

Dealer did mine and it does the same thing. I've put 1200 miles on since then and it hasn't been a problem.

big book says 0w30 performance semi-synthetic, 2.9 liters without filter (3.0644 qt), 3.1 liters with filter (3.27573 qt) for all models.
355 ml gear oil in chain case (0.375124 qt or .75 pint).

Manual is a bit vague says to heat up to operating temperature then shut off engine and let cool. Just seems weird that you can't check engine when cold and that it would rise like that.

for those interested.. a dealer told me they fill to a tad below the red full line...seems the higher boost sleds, boost vacuum was drawing some oil in...

might go the mobil one route like in the past with an emgo 10-82250 filter

I have never changed any of the o rings on any of my sleds, cars or trucks and have never had a leak. Just make sure there is no grit or anything on the o ring or the bottom of the engine or oil tank drain hole. I see no reason the change them unless you damage it.

So do the O rings need to be replaced each time we change oil? I don't remember having to do that on my other Yammy 4 strokes. Anyone got a part number from orielly or size of those O rings? I didn't buy the kit because I want to run Mobil 1 and the K&N oil filter. Thanks.

Are people taking the side panel right off to avoid oil going everywhere?
