I know the oil thing has been beaten to death but....last year I switched from the original Yamalube spec oil 0-30 semi synthetic. Since the new spec was 0-40 full synthetic I switched to that, but used Mobil 1 0-40 instead of Yamalube.

I noticed that the 05 RX1 started to use a little more oil than before and the 06 Attak started to use some oil too. The Attak didn't use any before this. Seems to be around 1/2 to 1 quart per 1,000 miles for both (a little less for the Attak than the RX1).

The mileage on the sled is 7,840 for the RX1 and 8,750 for the Attak. Has anyone else seen this? Is it just the Mobil 1 or the mileage on the sleds or both?

Really not sure if I want to go with the Yamalube 0-30 semi syn or the Mobil 1 0-40 full syn for about the same price.

Also I noticed the Yamalube 0-40 full syn has ester in it, does that make a diff from Mobile 1?

I hate this oil crap and I know everyone has an opinion just trying to make the sleds live as long as possible!

I hate the oil crap as well and until I get my degree in Petroleum Engineering I'm sticking with yamalube.

In my hopped up subaru I ran 0w30 mobile 1 in the winter and 0w40 in the summer, on the 0w30 it would drink oil like a qt every 1500 miles, on the 0w40 didn't use a drop, no idea why. It was repeatable and happened every year.

I use Redline 0-20 in mine. This oil has lots of ester and moly in it. It is also $11 a quart. Going to a higher weight oil like a 0-40 definately robs hp. If you really want to get confused about oils go to www.bobistheoilguy.com ,it makes great reading.

Can you use fully synthetic oils in these sleds I have a good supply of the mobil 0 40. Can I use it in my sea doo rxpx and 06 apex?

there can be lots of variables on why your using oil, does it smoke more than normal ,have you looked to see if your leaking it out..lol. not every engine is the exact same, not every person drives there sled the same.some apex's have more issues.do you allow for your engine to warm up good before take off>>it matters when its cold out<< javascript:emoticon(':brrr:') lots of things going on in that engine; need to get coated with oil good before you start pushing the loud lever above 3,4,5,6,000rpm+! change oil and filter with whatever you want and see what happens, won't hurt.. ;)!

I run Mobil 0W-40 in my Attak and did not notice any oil loss. It has 10,700 miles on it now. I ran it 4500 miles last year and changed the oil once at 2000 miles. No oil loss.

Thanks though, I'll be keeping a sharper eye on it!!

Here is info from Mobil 1
Question:
What is Ester Oil?
What is ester oil and how is it different than conventional oil?
-- Randy Drier, Atlanta, GA

Answer:
Ester oil is synthetic base oil that has been chemically synthesized. Typically ester oils are used in passenger car air conditioning compressors, refrigerators, and other industrial applications. Esters are one of the classes of synthetics that have been used in Mobil 1 products as well. Esters are stable molecules, provide good solvency, and provide very good low temperature and high temperature performance in engine oils.

I read somewere ester oil was fish oil but this kills that rumor.

I've been running M1 0W-30 with both my Apex's with very little consumption. Wally World has it in the 5qt jugs for $22. Then I get the Purolator Pure 1 oil filter for 6.47 26. per year isn't bad.

OK thanks for the reply's. I guess I am going with the Mobil1 0w40 again this year. Always had good luck with it in the past, I'll just keep a close eye on the consumption!

ok so does the 0/20 redline oil at wfo use any extra oil vrs yamalube,we know the thinner oil runs more top speed, but does it cost you more oil to get the extra speed??

Spec for an '05 RX-1 was 0W-30 Synthetic. Maybe the newer ones run 0W 40. But the '05s was the first year they went syntehetic and the wieght was 0W-30.
