well, I am tired of my temp light coming on all the time and having to go off the trail to get snow on the heat exhanger. I have heard of people running diffrent coolent and also heard of people adding heat exchangers. is there a good coolent mixture that will keep from overheating, or should I add an extra heat exchanger.
thanks

Depends on how much work you want to put into it.
MTX cooler kit works great for most anyone who installed it.
But, I went with Water Wetter dilute and cut vents into my panels and hood.
Either way it works.

I thought i was the only one having this issue........... thinking of doing the vents and found some nice round ones fron SLP.... for a doo but will work fine

What I don't understand is that our new sleds now have radiators and they still overheat. I installed the MTX heat exchanger and never had trouble since.

You'd think Yamaha could design a sled without a radiator and use larger tunnel coolers to cool the sled...simpler design.

I know... The radiator turned into a heat sink.
And the t-stat keeps it closed off quite a bit so it isn't doing much unless you change the t-stat and get more air through it.

is this stuff just an additive for the coolent and where could I get some?

Yes, most automotive shops have Water Wetter made by Redline.
You drain out some of the 100% anitfreeze from the lower engine clamp right by the oil tank, hook it back up and add in the the solution into the rad.
Watch out when you pull that hose off the motor, it flows fast, have a bucket ready.
I used Motul "Mo Cool" basically the same stuff got it from Royal Distributing.

My 08 Nytro constantly ran hot until I installed the MTX exchanger. I tried all the normal stuff but the problem still continued. I didn't want to cut a bunch of holes in the plastic for venting so I went with the extra exchanger. If Roest Racing had their instrument panel vent out when I installed the exchanger I probably would have tried that first. I like the fact that their vent is hidden and it makes sense to let the heat that builds under the the hood out through the highest point. You may want to give it a try.

mine got hot this weekend. ran all last year fine. it's was the first time out this year, stopped three times for temp light, than stopped for lunch and after that it was fine never did it again. I can't figure it out

Trails probably softened up later in the day, due to warmth and usage, thus throwing more snow on the front heat exchanger.

highly doubt it! I rode last year in some real crap, high temps and low snow and never had temp light come on. When this happened their was plenty of fresh snow on the trail

Make sure your anti freeze is 50/50, same issue with phazers too strong a mix from factory. Water wetter in mine also no issues at all. If you want to spend $40 a gallon on engine ice coolant that is supposed to keep engines extra cool some xcountry racers use that. That product is stand alone so you would have to flush cooling system totally to run. Hope that helps.

Ahhhh, that might be worth checking out. I know my rad does #*$&@.

What I don't understand is shy my Nytro will have the light come on, but in the same conditions a VK Pro has no issues whatsoever.

My temp light comes on when riding in cold temps. Ice builds up on front tunnel protectors and doesn't allow for loose snow to get thrown in front exchanger. I could not figure out why the temp light would be on when it's -30 and flying down the trail at 80. Whenever it warms up a bit or when pounding in the rough, light goes off. I figure I'll just cut off the front protectors as I'm not going to add studs again and be done with it.
