Overheating

They did not want to add any more weight or put more money in the sled. If you look at like a F7 looks like it cost about $4,000 pop the hood on a Rx1 and there is some money in there!!

Skydog :4STroke:

I overheated more than I liked, at least 5-6 times, heels on boots melted, not good, yammi rear exchanger $41, dealer said yamaha is helping us with the problem, [that isn't really there :? ], by selling it at a cheaper price. All overheating was not during prime conditions, but these 1000cc need more cooling capacity :!:

Park, what are y ou getting for $41.00? I was quoted $110.00 for the mountain exchanger.

My dealer quoted me $85 for part #8ep-rhecr-kt-00 for my Warrior. After it overheated about 6 times my first weekend out I just ordered it. Antifreeze is right at 60/40 and system is bled. Trails weren't too bad, slightly hard pack and it was extremely cold -27F. So I hope the rear cooler helps, I have never had any of my other sleds overheat so it sucks consistently worrying about it.

I will get the part # from invoice for you, came with the rivets so it's a kit, i might have got 10% off because of new sled purchase, but that would still be under $50. I will be back with #

04 shorty, part #8ET-RHECR-KT, price of $42, I did not get discount on that, straight out price, & it is not like some of the pictures of warrior & mountain exchangers, alot smaller, very little room on the shorty

I paid same as Parx, pretty easy to install. You do have to cut a little bigger hole in one side of the tunnel where the hoses connect to the rear cross-over tube to allow for removing the tube and installing the exchanger in its place. Make sure you bleed the system well and make sure all your exchangers are getting hot.

yamaha Cust service drops the ball.

Hey all. I just droped my 05 warrior off at the dealer again. Overheat with med pack snow and 20 degrees. This is the 4th time in the shop for this problem. #$%&*

Spoke to Yamaha customer service out in cali after the 2nd time. The guy said take it back to dealer for them to look at and talk with yammi service advisors. Added water wetter, confirmed 60/40 coolant mix. ect. :o| and they would see about adding a cooler. There is NO design problem in not having the cooler accoring to the guy. I have the 48 moth YES with this sled, you would think that they would fix the problem before it causes real damage.

Dealer just called and said yammi WILL NOT add the cooler. :itchy: So looks like after 4 times into shop and still overheating I will have to go the lemon law route. Sent copies of dealer repair sheets and purchase reciept to lawyer. Will keep you posted. Love the 4 stroke, too bad the company is not standing behind the product.

There seems to be more written about this topic than any other with respect to this sled. My warrior overheated early on at the end of last year riding in marginal snow conditions (purchased the sled at end of season...what a deal!). It was the only one to overheat in the group. This was the only time it was ridden prior to summerizing it last year. The first ride this year, the light came on only because I let the sled idle too long. In each case, boards were packed with snow and motor cooled quickly. My question/theory/observation is has anyone considered that it takes time for the moving parts in a four cylinder to break in to the point friction is minimized and as a result, reduce the need for excess cooling? It seems that shortly after the break-in process, my sled is running cooler. I am continuing to keep an eye on it, but am hopeful that the overheating issue is behind me.

I CALLED YAMAHA & MY FRIEND CALLED YAMAHA & IN ONE CALL EACH WE BOTH HAD FREE EXCHANGERS ON THE WAY TO OUR DEALERS!!!
YOU HAVE TO GET ON THE PHONE YOURSELF & BITCH ABOUT IF THERE IS NO PROBLEM WHY DID YAMAHA COME OUT WITH THE EXCHANGERS FOR EVERY MODEL THAT IS OVER HEATING!? MY FRIEND HAS A 04 WARRIOR & I HAVE A 05 SHORTY!

I have 1300 miles on mine. And I have spent 5 calls with ean at Yammi cust service :o| My buddy has 1100 miles on his and his also has a overheat trend. Altough they do not always overheat at the same time or conditions. Will keep you guys posted. We have bought 2 05 warriors and a 05 RS venture, hope that this gets sloved or close $30,000 for trail benchs is a hard pill to stomach.

Thanks for all the feedback. I order the heat exchanger from my dealer before going to Maine last week so I didn't have a chance to install. Last week I overheated at -22 below zero. I was riding on a freshly groomed trail. I am planning on calling Yamaha tomorrow before picking it up and will defiantly bitch to them. My question to everyone who already installed is, are you running studs? (1.325) My dealer told me they will tale out the heat exchanger.

Thanks!!!!!

I just got mine installed today. I heard the same story how overheating is due to poor snow conditions and "they have not heard of a problem". Kept calling back and finally told them I wanted the exchanger for free. They agreed to send the part for free but labor would be up to me and my dealer. The owner said charge, but the service manger said no charge. So I guess they will keep my busniess for now. Now I'm into the problem of when it's very cold out I get no gages or headlines on startup. It takes 3-5 minutes of running before the gages return. Then I only get the highbeam until another 3-5 minutes pass, then finally the low beam. Tech couldn't locate the peoblem[ DUH! try relay switch] called Yamaha and they said it was the first they have heard of and to keep an eye on it as it could be a faulty relay switch. So now this will be ongoing. Last problem that wasn't fixed was my 05 RX1-ER every once in a very great while will completely die when coming to a stop. Tech gave me a big"Yeah right" kind of look until he test ran it and guess what. It died. Again called Yamaha who had no answers and the tech couldn't duplicate it again while I was there so it's another "we'll keep an eye on it and let us know if it happens again". At least it is on the record with the dealer and Yamaha.

I'VE HAD MY EXCHANGER ON FOR 1000 MILES NOW & NO LIGHT!!!!!!!

IN 480 MILES BEFORE THAT 4 TIMES LIGHT WAS ON!

HEY BUT, WE DON'T NEED THAT EXCHANGER RIGHT YAMAHA!!??
